Good view, some issues with bathroom, AC, and front desk

Reviewed By AliZadeh2022

I try to categorize my feedback into pros and cons: Pros: Good check-in experience, nice view from our room Cons: The drains of both our bathroom sink and our bathtub were partly clogged and the water was getting drained very very slowly. As a result, getting a shower was extremely hard (we needed to turn off the water, wait for few minutes, and then continue showering (and do this a couple of times during every shower!!). The AC was ok during the night, but not doing a good job during the day where it was very hot. Another very disappointing experience was during our check out. I purchased two snacks from the concierge and asked to pay for it right there instead of adding the charge to my room expenses but for some reason (I guess the machine was not working or something) I was told that it is not possible, and it should be added to room expenses. I specifically asked for the price and confirmed the total amount. However, during the checkout, I was told that I got charged almost twice that amount for that purchase!! I asked for an itemized receipt but I was told that is not available or written anywhere. When I said that is twice the amount that was confirmed with me, the person at the front desk told me: Do you want me to take 1 dollar off?! (I don't know if he was joking or not. but it was very impolite in my opinion to be honest). Last but not least, I got charged about ~35 dollars for "Facility fees". We never used facilities and this extra charge was not mentioned in expedia (I still cannot find it to be honest) where we booked the hotel. It was also not communicated with us during the check in time.

Nice on the outside...only

The amenities looked pretty good but, the room hadn't been cleaned in who knows how long. There were food marks on the desk and floor. The exterior of the toilet was filthy. No bathmat to stand on after showering. Used towel on floor to wipe up water and it turned black. Although renovations had been recently done, there isn't any insulation between floors. I've stayed at a lot of Best Westerns and this one is crap and shouldn't be one. Won't be staying here again!

Surprise rate gouge

Reviewed By Gary W

My wife and I were charged the "Corporate Rate" for two of our four night stays even though we were there to attend our granddaughter's graduation. When we booked this reservation we were quoted $132/night. The price almost tripled one night and almost doubled a second night. Another example of "Buyer beware". This is especially true of large corporations that only care about profits. We were stunned when our bill was emailed to us after we arrived home. One might presume that when the hotel was asked about "Triple A"/AARP rates that they would figure out we were not representing a company. The "corporate rate" exists because companies pay the bill not individuals. Demand that the initial reservation itemizes all charges and foreseeable rate changes. Sadly, our confirmation reservation email did not provide this information.

Well designed new spot in a great location, but some kinks to still work out

Reviewed By newyork10011

I stayed here right when the hotel had reopened. Everything was new and nicely designed, but there were some issues as well. Some examples: The King room did not have a desk and chair as advertised so there was nowhere to sit or work except the bed. There were some issues with the code for entering my room, but they were resolved after a few attempts with assistance by phone. The tv wouldn’t work and I was told someone would come and fix it but no one showed up all day, and only later did I learn you had to connect the tv to your phone somehow - the room had no instructions or guidance about that. Some of the rooms are quite small like a dorm room. On the plus side the design of the place is nice and the location in town is great. The coffee in the room is good and the bathroom was a good size.

Oh dear...

Reviewed By Jarko2015

I've seen worse. A LOT worse! But usually, worse means cheaper and in this case, although for Redwood City it is indeed 'budget', you'll get cheaper (and probably the same quality) elsewhere in the Bay Area. Why Redwood City needs so many hotels and why they charge such a high rates is a mystery, but I digress... The biggest problem with this property is the staff. It seems to be a family run business and it's a family that is clueless about how to treat paying customers. They just don't care. It's not that they're out and out rude, it's just that they truly couldn't care less about you. Just pay up, go to your room and don't bother us seems to be the mantra. You can actually check in and out with only a cursory word or two from the staff. They really are astonishingly rude. The lobby contains a coffee machine and packaged pastries and that constitutes the "free" breakfast. There are no other amenities on property. Rooms are on two floors and since there are no elevators, make sure you're on the ground floor if you have mobility issues. Parking is ample. There's a space for each room. I think. Rooms have apparently been 'renovated', but you'd never know. Carpets are old and a bit grubby, but again, I've seen worse. Furniture is a bit battered. There is a fridge and a microwave, plus a big flat screen TV. WIFI is reliable and free. My room was quite large and had a separate sitting/working area and there was a lot of unused space. Linens are relatively clean. Beds are comfortable. Room-room noise is tolerable. Somebody did turn their TV on at full blast around 10PM and must have left the property as it was still blaring at full blast at 10AM. It was heard in every room. The staff did not care. You will also be woken by the (daily it seems) city garbage trucks that reverse into the property, empty all the bins as noisily as they can and then depart. This seems to happen between 7AM and 8AM most mornings. Guests leaving early certainly don't care about keeping quiet. Bathrooms could do with a big refresh, but they are relatively clean. Hot water takes forever to run hot and you may have to run the shower or taps for quite some time to get the hot flowing. A criminal waste of water. Soap and shampoo are provided. Towels could do with much better laundry. It's cheap(ish) for a reason. It's a basic property in a poor area. If it's the best you can get, you won't be too horrified. It's a two star property that delivers a two star experience. At three star prices.

If you are in town to attend a event and need a decent place to sleep, this is a low cost option. Restaurants, stores are reachable on foot and the motel also has parking available. The rooms needed to be upgraded though. Everything seems old
