Absolutely Useless Bellhops

Reviewed By Emptynest_Ken

Both when we arrived, and when we left, the bellhops left us to haul our own luggage down the 1,000 foot pier. This is even worse than it sounds because the pier is made of rough shaped plastic cubes, so luggage won't roll over it. When we arrived, they knew we were coming, but weren't there. We waited in the hot sun, and eventually just did the slog by ourselves. When we left, they just dropped us off at the head of pier and quickly darted away. There was then considerable confusion and arguing among the boat captains as to who was even supposed to take us. Thanks for the help.

Small hotel on the quiet east side of Railay. Spacious villas, nice amenities and excellent staff.

Reviewed By Rachael W

Lovely small resort in East Railay Beach. Very nice welcome to the island. Enjoyed a pool Villa which was very spacious and well appointed. Breakfast was plenty full with lots of options. The staff at the hotel was very kind and helpful. Hotel pool and pool bar great. Enjoyed my stay. Keep in mind this hotel is located on the east side of the island, fronted by mangroves with an obstructed view to the water. It is very close to the pier which makes it very convenient. It's also a quieter and less expensive side of the island. It really depends on what you're looking for. If I ever return to Railay I may opt for the west side due to proximity of swimmable beaches and views there. This is a nice hotel and the value excellent.

Very disappointed

Reviewed By erickurf

We made a reservation for this resort, and were looking forward to our stay. Due to a problem with our creditcard the resort could not take the payment a week in advance and cancelled our booking. The problem was solved quickly, and we contacted the resort by mail and even telephone to tell the everything was alright and that we really wanted to stay with them. We offered to pay instantly the same amount as the reservation at Booking.com, including the part Booking.com normally contributes. In the end we received the answer that we could make a reservation directly to them, but for double the price. We were really disappointed by this kind of 'help'. Eventually we had a great stay in Railay, but absolutely not in this resort.

Great stay in Railay paradise

Reviewed By erickurf

Railay Beach is a little paradise and we were lucky to stay in the great Sand Sea Resort. Our little bungalow in tropical style was spacious, with all you need. including the airconditioning. Bathroom could do with a refurb, but was still allright. There is a pool at the entrance, but we had the second pool right in front of our door. Bonus: the visits of monkeys on a regular basis. Great to watch, though you have to be careful for the mango's they drop... Spacious resort, with almost only bungalows. Nice restaurant, good breakfast in the morning. And af course directly at the beach, which is wonderful. Do not forget to see the sunset from there.

Avatar Railay Krabi

The Avatar Railay Resort is something unique - a brand new boutique resort with a selection of different accommodations to suit every need. Materials, appliances, fittings and fixtures are not only top-specification but are also featured to be highly energy efficient. Furniture, furnishings, fabrics and décor are modern, stylish and pleasing to the eye, with imported hardwoods from America and Canada, colour schemes keyed to harmonious earth-tones, luxury spring mattresses and top quality Egyptian cotton bed linen, plus with a 40-inch flatscreen Samsung TV with USB input connected to international satellite channels in every room and suite. The location, on Railay Beach East is accessible only by boat. It's secluded and peaceful - no cars or motorbikes anywhere. And yet it's not totally isolated, having a short beachside strip of colourful bars and restaurants, with several 'mini-marts' plus a pharmacy and medical centre. Access to the mainland is quick and easy by means of water taxis which run continually throughout the day. However, our resort has its own boat deck, and hotel boats are available for guests at all times.

Great stay!

Reviewed By nstnl7

I loved Avatar, and had the perfect stay. The room had a porch with a daybed that you could step straight into the pool from. The room was perfectly clean, good air-con and comfortable space. There's often monkeys around the area so be careful with food... But the staff were friendly and helpful, and most nights there was a singer out in the bar area. The Restaurant was pretty poor, so i wouldn't recommend eating here. But there's lots of great restaurants a short walk away. All in all it was a great stay, and if i'm ever in Railay again i'd 100% stay here!

They sell the view. That's about it!

Reviewed By Nok_takeaTrip

We booked this place to stay as a couple for a retreat purpose. Paid more money to get the best room with the best view. We got what we wanted but unfortunately the whole experience was very disappointing. Pros: 1.Beautiful view. Situated in the midst of greenery looking out onto East side of Railay. 2. They provide a transport to go down to the beachfront and back up.(a tractor type vehicle) The resort is up in the hill, you need to be fit to stay here to walk up and down. We didn't mind. 3. Most staff are nice and polite (with an exception of a maintenance guy.) 4. Breakfast was average (except the flies on the tables and bees in jam jars) Cons: 1.We were unfortunate to be there the same time as 2 big groups consisted of 40 plus something people. We had one guy shouting below us onto his friends at the pool. He kept making crazy noise with no consideration of other people's privacy. I know this is hard for the resort to control so this is NOT a complaint but a suggestion. For example, instead of telling us that the vehicle cannot take us back up to the lobby because the driver was waiting for the group of guests, he should have at least provided another vehicle for us. That way we would not have felt that the group guests had priority over individuals like us even though we paid more money. I think the staff are not well-trained to have service mind. If things cannot be done within that moment, they should promptly take action to find creative solution! A little thing like that does count! For the rest of our stay we walked up and down from hotel to beachfront, couldn't be bothered anymore. 2.We hadn't realised that this place is a TWO STAR HOTEL according to Google. So there is NO SAFE in the room. And there are no pool towels provided. 3.It took ages for us to get into the room.Check in time is 2 PM. But we had to wait and to keep asking them if our room was ready as they sent us to wait at the pool bar. And there was no one bother notifying us. Another couple encountered the same issue but had to wait longer than us. 4. Leaks in the roof. Never before did we encounter leaking ceiling when staying in a seemingly well looked after resort. We had to try to sleep with the sound of rain drops onto ceiling. Water was flowing down onto the bathroom door and down onto the floor. We laughed even though it wasn't funny in the end! They were notified and we were told that they were going to recompense us in some way. Rooms were all booked out. So in the morning after some guests had checked out, they asked if we wanted to move, but that would mean losing a room with the view we had originally booked for. So we decided not to move to save trouble packing and unpacking. 5. The shower had no hot water for the 1st day and more half, we in the end couldn't cope with cold shower anymore, so we called for maintenance guy to come and fix. Waited 30 minutes and this guy smelled of alcohol came with another lady who might be an owner not sure. He in the end fixed it but he was rude, no apology from both persons. 6. They maid did not understand the "Do not disturb" sign. Because of no safe in the room, we wanted to go for breakfast quickly and come back up without having to lock our valuables in the case. So you would have thought hanging the sign "do not disturb" on the door would stop anyone from entering in. But nope! We came back only to find that the room was done. Thanks for their enthusiasm to clean but that's not what the guests wanted! Hotel staff apologised for the mistake. But it's that many "small little things" that count towards how well the guests are treated and cared for. The administrator of FB page sent apologies for all the troubles we had. That's about it. For the money we paid (almost 3000 b a night!) and the service we got, we felt ripped off. We aren't coming back here.

Avoid At All Costs

Reviewed By Connector15615821957

Well, this has been a bone of contention and really was horrific We booked for 8 nights. After the first night we told them we would be leaving. We landed at Krabi airport, longing to jumped in a taxi to the hotel. We got told by the taxi service in the airport we had to get a taxi to the boat as it was on an island. It's not an island we found out. But it is unreachable other than by boat. A local boat not a ferry. For someone that is disabled, trust me that was a nightmare. We arrived at an old concrete landing point, and I somehow had to get out of the boat. I'd been involved in a boating accident back in 2017 so the whole thing terrified me. Then we had to walk along this dangerous path, then start climbing up to reception. I can't describe the pain I was in by then. Well got given our room details and a map! Yep, a map to the beaches which my husband never found. Our walk to the cabin was horrific. Up and down. On bodged dangerous paths. Our cabin was located on a pile of bricks. You had to climb stairs with a tread of approximately 6 inches wide. No handrails at all. I went to put my hand on the wall and a bit of wood fell off. I had to climb up on my hands and knees. On entering the bathroom floor wasn't coveted in leaves and dirt due to the perspex ceilings being damaged. To get to the restaurant that night, it wasn't another nightmare. Up and down. After returning to the cabin, once you left the path there we no lights. Thank goodness we had our phones with torches. Climbing up those stairs in the dark would be really dangerous. It was that night we found out that the aircon was useless. More dirt and tree parts fell through the bathroom ceiling when it rained. Goodnestone knows how many insects climbed through the gap in between the balcony glass door as they didn't meet. Or even run on tracks. And the mosquito net had a hole in it. Next morning we had to take the same up and down path again. We reported the aircon. The balcony doors the girl at reception already had on her phone! Eventually around 4pm two men came out to look at the aircon. By that time I'd gone on Google to find out how to reset it. But it still wasn't working properly. With no sleep, and walking on dangerous paths etc, I was really annoyed, tired, in pain. So we went to tell them we'd be leaving. A man behind the counter told me to be quiet when I described the health and safety failings. And how dangerous it actually was. My husband after 40 mins of walking never found the beach. He said I could never have got there. More up and down dangerous track. The next morning they offered us another room. What they didn't understand was it wasn't just the room. It was so dangerous. A member of staff took a photo of all of the insect bites my hubby had on his legs. Still don't know why. We asked to be put on the shuttle boat back to Krabi town. Instead they put us on a boat used for the food and linen trips. I has a huge panic attack getting on the boat. Physically and mentally it was just all to much. Two people had to nigh on carry me on. If I'd taken the wheelchair, I would never have got 10ft. The owners of the hotel lied through their teeth about everything. Apparently the offer of another cabin would have made it OK. Just as we were checking out we bumped into a couple that were looking for the beach path. They'd booked, but the resort was over booked. And this poor couple complete with luggage had been told to walk the beach path to another resort. On their own. We arrived on land, hadn't to find ourselves transport to a hotel we had booked the night before. Yet the staff told Agoda that they hadn't organised transport to our next hotel. They had no idea where we were going. It could have been on a flight out of there. We had actually booked the pineapple hotel in Krabi old town. I've got so many photos of that resort. If you are disabled don't go. If you have young children don't go. And when they say shuttle, they mean a 'long boat'. Which actually go on all night!

Location was fantastic - remote and cut off, right next to the limestone rocks (and caves). A short walk from the Tonsai Beach, and a bit longer walk (how long depends on tide and your interests) from the Railey Beach. There are many caves to explore. We are not experienced in exploring caves, but walked around some caves. Many people were also doing rock climbing, but we didn't do it. Accommodation was basic (expected - no electricity during the day, only from evening to morning), bungalows were cute and very close to nature. However, basic doesn't mean dirty. We found the washrooms to be not quite clean. Also, there is one power plug (either switch on fan or charge your phone at night - not both). The bar was pretty chilled (does justice to the name), we only had beer - so no comments on the cocktails. You can order food from one of the restaurants - I highly recommend the shrimp omelette.

Most disappointing hotel in Thailand so far..

Reviewed By Emily J

The reception area is very difficult to find, as it looks more and is a tourist information centre, once we found it, the receptionist was more interested in doing her make up and made us feel as though we was a hardship to her. Once checked in we followed a man who very kindly took my bag and was shown to the bottom of the stairs, another very helpful man took our bags from us and we started the climb. There is a lot of stairs but if your fit it’s not to bad. We unfortunately were right at the top of the resort so felt we had way to much climbing to do just to get to our room. Then we got to the room.. the room is a good size but the shower is directly over the toilet, we’ve had showers next to but never directly over the toilet? Making this a difficult task. There was gaps in between the roof and the walls and huge cracks in the front door, so as you are surrounded by jungle mosquitoes would have been rife and we had no mosquito net (which was advertised). There is no television, this is not necessarily a problem, but what was a problem was that it was not possible to lock the door. Myself and my husband did not feel comfortable staying here and decided to look elsewhere. We returned straight back downstairs and was told we could not have a refund. Not even for the second night we had booked which I felt was unfair as we had good reason to not stay. I would not recommend this hotel, it’s massively overpriced for a very basic hut. The view is good from the window but the surrounding area which you have to walk through and look over are much to be desired. There are much nicer hotels in the area for the same price even cheaper!
