Relaxation pure at Huab Lodge

Reviewed By sirkka2022

We had two most relaxing days at the Huab Lodge end of May. After some good rains this year, Huab was even more special with all the golden grass than we remembered from our first visit some years ago. Lydia and Deon, the new owners, were perfect hosts and gave us very personal service. Make sure to stay - at least - two nights, in order to have enough time to enjoy everything Huab has to offer, including the hot spring!. We did the early morning walk with Deon and enjoyed it very much! We wish Lydia and Deon all the best - we'll be back!

Great experience

We had a wonderful time at Ohorongo lodge. The lodge is very nice and confortable, food is superb, the rooms are huge and you feel in very close contact with nature, because you are indeed! The lodge is surrounded by an extensive reserve with lots of wildlife. Daniel took us on a day drive around the place, we loved it in every way! It was super fun to ride the safari car, and company was unforgettable. The next day we had a little accident with our car while driving out of their place, and the Ohorongo team took exceptional care of us until the tow came to pick us and the car up. Not only they tried to fix the problem, they stayed with us and gave us food and drinks, and made us feel like we are family to them. I do not have enough words to thank them, especially Daniel who spent all that time with us:-)

Damara Mopane Lodge

Built in the wattle and daub style under Mopane trees and connected by a labyrinth of paths, the main building and chalets of the lodge look like an African village. The walls are adorned by copies of the rock engravings at Twyfelfontein. Each of the 60 double room chalets (with air conditioning) sits in a vegetable and herb garden surrounded by a low wall. The gardens supply fresh ingredients for supper, which consists of a starter followed by a delicious buffet. There is a swimming pool for chilling out and a viewing point for relishing sunsets. The lodge at the gates of Damaraland is ideally suited for excursions to Twyfelfontein (130 km), the Petrified Forest (70 km) and the Vingerklip rock pillar (50 km).

Okahirongo Elephant Lodge

An oasi of luxury and class in the middle of the oldest desert in the world.

Quirky in design but don't be ut off.

Reviewed By mfuwe

We had misgivings about staying here for several reasons, including cost. But all went well in the booking process with our questions being answered promptly and thoroughly. We went and it was a god choice. We normally explore areas with our own vehicle but due to recent heavy rains this may have proved a bit foolhardy as the river was still flowing and the sand soft. Even on arrival in Purros we were pleased to find that they had kindly sent a vehicle to guide us over the river Hoarusib to the Lodge on the hill above. That was a start to a pleasant stay. The architecture is a bit quirky, in reminded me of Lilliput in the Disney film, but it works internally. There are about 8 bungalows set along a ridge divided by the central communal areas such as office, pool, lounges and restaurants. I say restaurants (plural) as there were several rooms where private dining would be possible but as we were almost the only guests that was a bit academic during our stay. All was immaculately clean and maintained. Our bungalow was well equipped and fitted out and was one of the nicest of places. The bedroom was accessed from a gate to a small lobby and on the other side was the bathroom complete with bath and washbasins as well as shower stall . A really nice idea. At the end of the lobby/hall was a lounge and sunbed on a small balcony/stoop with tremendous views out over the harsh desert lands and mountains. There was much to look sat from a family of Ostrich to a daily parade of Springbok going about their business in total security. I dare say elephant and other large mammals pass by in season as there were many animal tracks criss crossing the desert. Meals were very nicely cooked from a choice of main courses. The was a hint of italian in the cooking process and when I enquired if the chef was italian, I was proudly told that she was 'pure blood Himba'. As the informant was proudly Ovambo it was good to see that the lodge was providing good work for local Namibian people. Due to the conditions I took advantage of their game drives each morning and their guide 'Wahni' was excellent and hard working in seeking out wildlife and birds as well as explaining the local way of life and its interaction with wildlife. All in all a very nice place to stay for a few days in teh sparse Purros area and we plan to return again on our next trip.

Sophienhof Lodge

Wonderful place

Reviewed By dsavin527837

The place is wonderful! Lots of space and lots of freedom to move around, trails and dirt roads for safaries. I loved the fact that I was able to hike and not just drive. Animals are all over and it brings a lot of joy. Rooms are spacious and clean and have that modern African vibe. Another very special thing is the food. While breakfast and mini lunch are tasty, dinners are truly delicious and unique as dishes announced on Damara language. Also we tried lots of fake meat there which was cool! We also were able to rent a safari car there, very convenient. Overall, I would definitely stay there again and recommend to anyone!
