Good location and reasonable accommodation 出張利用

I stayed at the Shinkan on a business trip. I chose it because it is close to the station and a large communal bath is available. It was a relatively old hotel, but the amenities were enriched and the rooms were clean. However, the breakfast buffet was not satisfied because there were few kinds and the local cuisine was not substantial.

We have been to Japan four times and we booked this hotel twice and managed to get the same room. On both trips we stayed for a month. The hotel Manager and staff were fantastic and very friendly and there was never a problem if we needed any help. The hotel could not have been more central in Kokura as it is 5min walk to Train and Bus terminal and very close to the famous arcade shopping streets. When going back to Japan, will be booking the same hotel.

Art Hotel Kokura New Tagawa

A reception hall in Kitakyushu that combines European elegance with the tranquility of a 100-year-old Japanese garden. Kokura has long been a focal point for transit, to the point that it is said that all the roads of Kyushu run through Kokura. JR Kokura Station, the gateway to the Kokurakita Ward in Kitakyushu, is a connecting station for the Shinkansen, the Kagoshima Main Line and the Nippo Main Line, and is also traversed by the monorail, truly making it the transport hub for the island of Kyushu.

The only hotel with a (beautifully maintained) garden in Kokura

Reviewed By Razvan Ion P

Art Hotel New Tagawa impressed me with its 100-year-old garden and fantastic services. My first stay was 5 years ago and I like New Tagawa so much that I keep asking my wife (who is acting as my Japanese interface) to book it almost every time we are in Kokura. The last time we stayed there was in May-June this year for about one month. Facilities were closed due to COVID-19 when we arrived but they reopened during our stay, not entirely though. We had the beautifully maintained garden for ourselves, sharing it only with a cat. The staff was as friendly as ever. Five years ago, while staying in this hotel with my wife and my parents, I made a friend among the staff, who is still on my Facebook friend list. Everyone in this hotel is so welcoming and friendly, in a unique way even for Japanese standards. One thing I enjoyed in the past but not on my latest visit (due to COVID) was the weddings which I could see while having lunch in the restaurant or while having a dessert and/or drink in the hotel’s cafeteria. The food is also great and the single tip I could offer is to select the Japanese breakfast rather than the western one and to try the sake (hot or cold) at dinner time instead of the wine. I hope the hotel will be able to keep the high-quality standards it has because I wish to return many times.

The great location and reasonable price!!!

Yutaka hotel is located 30 seconds walk away from Kokura station, North Exit. A few choices of convenience store near by and lots of restaurant choices within the station building itself and around the station. The room is typical business hotel type but all we need is there for our comfort. The reception service is good. Free WiFi available in the room. It is a great location for shopping. Amu Plaza is a part of station building, fashion building and the ground floor with food and grocery. Colet is a big department store at the South Exit, also offers huge food range at the ground floor.

One Station before Hakata is Kokura...

Reviewed By BlueDragon_99

To me to find a hotel room in Hakata over the weekend at a right price seems to be very difficult so far and this time it was next to impossible. So what to do... Solution was to go to Kokura which is only one station away by Shinkan-sen! (If you have Japan RailPass it would cost you nothing and traveling time is only about 20 min.!) I have stayed in Tokyu-Inn in various locations in the past and normally they offer good service and the price for a night. And this Tokyu-Inn Kokura Kokura-eki Minami-guchi was not the exception. Location is close to the Station (ca 5 min. walk); the staff is friendly and efficient. Room is standard (as in all the Tokyu-Inns) but everything is there (see photo). The room charge includes simple breakfast (don't expect too much!) At the end of the day I saved a lot and I could go to Hakata for the meeting and the dinner.

Hotel with Superb C/P

Reviewed By RachelPYC

We stayed in the hotel for 3 nights. Kokura is a excellent location to stay if you plan to visit Yamaguchi, Kawachi-fujien etc. The hotel is located in a shopping street with loads of restaurant and drug/cosmetics store. There is a super market and department stores nearby (about 100m from the hotel). The room size is small, same as most Japanese budget hotel. The bed size is 150 cm for single or double room. The hotel only has 1 public bath (with different allot time for women and men), so it may be crowded. The hotel provide free breakfast and they change menu everyday during our 3 night stay! We love this hotel as it is very cost-effective and the service and location are really good. Note that the parking space is approximately 300 m away from the hotel.

Quiet hotel with high class lunch on the Murasaki river bank

Reviewed By Razvan Ion P

Crown Palace is an exquisite hotel on the Murasaki River bank, a river that springs from Mt. Fukuchi. One of the hotel’s main feature is its gorgeous terrace restaurant with direct access to the river walk. Riverwalk Kitakyushu is a prestigious shopping centre that includes theatres, restaurants, a multiplex cinema, NHK studios, the head offices of Zenrin Co. and the Asahi Shimbun and a branch of the Kitakyushu City Art Museum. My wife and I stayed 2 times in Crown Palace this year summing about one month. Some rooms have city view but I didn’t try any. I recommend the rooms with a view over the Murasaki river. The railway station is at 10 minutes walking distance. Kokura castle, the district’s main attraction, is just across the riverbank. This was not the first year to stay in Crown Palace, so I could observe the constancy of high quality services. I was mostly impressed by the lunch, not only by the food, its presentation, but also by the way it was served. I knew Crown Palace from few years ago for the French dinners. Unfortunately, during the pandemic, dinner restaurant was closed. I recommend the deluxe double room (see my pictures). Breakfast is very good, don’t miss it. If you stay long, as we did, and wish to try other places to eat, there are plenty of restaurants and cafeterias nearby.

First Solo Trip

Reviewed By Jamilibean

I actually stayed at this hostel JUL 2016, but have only just started using Trip Advisor. I had a wonderful time, staying at first for 1 week then another days later on. The staff were all so friendly and helpful. I enjoyed the vibe at the bar, and even helped out at one of the English cafe events; it was a fun experience. My business in Japan was visiting friends, and the location of the hostel in Kokura was perfect for me to walk to the station so I could travel into Fukuoka almost daily. The rooms are what you would expect from a hostel. They were kept nice and clean, had great AC (it was a very hot summer) and the WiFi was acceptable for the most part. Overall, a brilliant experience and I’m planning to visit again very soon.
