Blue Horizon Lodge

Blue Horizon Lodge was built in the 1940's as a place for visitors to escape the summer heat from the local cities located in lower elevations. This lodge has been owned by 3 families before our family purchased it on December 29, 2017. It also had 3 names: Apache Lodge, Russian Village and Blue Horizon Lodge. We had very nice conversations with the Wood family members who owned and operated the lodge since 1977 at the transition. We then spent almost a year to remodel and modernize the lodge with tankless water heaters, new rain gutters, new draining system, replaced the wall gas heater with central heat and replaced the carpets with water resistant hardwood floors. We also put in brand new kitchen with quartz countertops for each and every cabin. We did it as a family project with lots of help with local Big Bear folks. It took a village, but we did it!!! We made gut changes to the lodge while having the goal to retain its original rustic charm. We hope you will come.

Cozy cabin

Reviewed By 645raymondc

Cabin #10 needs a new floor. The carpet was filthy. Ths studio lacked comfortable seating to enjoy the fireplace and the TV. The lock to this room was unsafe. There was a hot tub in this unit with room for 1. I’d consider removing this tub to make room for comfortable chairs, This place has lots of potential but requires some TLC and attention to details. Owners should stay in the room to know this for themselves.

Dirty / Dated & Broken

Reviewed By Grayzone65

Facility is dated and dirty & broken. On day one I was initially checked into a room that had Not been cleaned. Went back down to desk to ask for a clean room and was assigned a room With-out any windows just a door to a outside hallway that was filthy. The room was dark and smelled damp like an old basement bedroom I had as a child. Damage to walls and bathroom vanity. After asking multiple times I was re-assigned on day two to a room also with damage to walls and vanity but this at least had a window. It also had ANTS coming out of the closest and hot water stopped working midday. The ceiling had filth on it where the air conditioner vent was blowing. One of two washing machines out of order and breakfast Burrito and coffee for $22.00 that was cold and lacked flavor. 2 stars are for location in the village otherwise this place is a dump. Stay away!

The location was perfect - very short drive to the village center, and close to Boulder Bay in the other direction. Room 7 was great for us as there was plenty of floor space for our blind golden retriever to find his way around. Everything was very clean and updated, and had all of the amenities we needed. Comfortable bedroom and bathroom, and loved the double recliner in front of the fireplace and flat screen TV in the living room. We would certainly stay there again.
