Hotel Casa Santo Domingo

In 1979 UNESCO declared the colonial city of La Antigua Guatemala as a World Cultural Heritage Site turning it to a recognized treasure of exceptional value before the eyes of the world. In the XVII Century, the Convent of Santo Domingo was one of the largest in America and in 1773, the earthquake of Santa Marta almost totally destroyed it. In 1989, the project known as Casa Santo Domingo was developed with the primary objective of rescuing the vestiges of the Convent and Temple buried under tons of rubble. Hotel Museum Spa Casa Santo Domingo progressively emerged where each corner is a page lost in time that joins others to form a beautiful chapter of the great book of our history.

The Spa is marvelous

Reviewed By travellerGTCH

If you are planning to relax, Casa Santo Domingo is the place to be. The service provided throughout our whole experience was immaculate. The staff goes the extra mile for you to relax and enjoy the experience. For instance, we were running late for an appointment but wanted to grab a quick bite at the restaurant. We expressed it to the waiter and with a big smile, he arranged our speedy lunch. We ended up being ahead of time. As for the SPA, it has two jacuzzis at different temperatures, which was very appreciated as I was looking for warmer water. You will also find a treatment/massage menu with dozens of options. As for the property itself, the architecture brings you back into history, it's beautiful. I really enjoyed walking through the museum. If you like chocolate, there is a chocolate store too! I would definitely recommend, just make sure you plan a whole day to visit the hotel itself as there is so much to do!

San Rafael Hotel

The San Rafael, which opens following a three-year restoration, incorporates the remains of an early structure significantly altered in the nineteenth century. The recent restoration preserves the form of a grand, traditional colonial home with its brick, stone and stucco construction; two courtyards; antique tile roofs; and three water features (including a dramatic wall fountain). Besides the furnished patio where one can enjoy a leisurely breakfast while gazing over the garden, guests will appreciate the elegant and lofty sitting and dining room, the perfect space in which to sip a glass of wine, sit before a roaring fire, or catch up on emails and correspondence. Entering through the gates of the San Rafael, visitors enjoy a sweeping view of the first courtyard with its two fountains and richly varied plantings: Italian cypresses, ficus trees, and the colorful blossoms of native plants. The hotel office and reception are conveniently located off the entry vestibule, where newly arriving guests will be greeted with a welcome beverage, and hotel residents may seek advice on touring the city, securing reservations at Antigua's finest restaurants, or making arrangements for a private excursion. Breakfast is a special occasion here, guests enjoying it while seated around the courtyard or in the dining room. For those fond of coffee or tea upon awakening, and before sitting down to breakfast, complimentary self-serve beverages are available in the courtyard each morning. The breakfast menu includes traditional offerings as well as a rotating array of special dishes. Breakfast is served between the hours of 7:00am and 10:30am weekdays, 11:00am weekends.

Good Stay

Reviewed By Vagabondgirl

We very much enjoyed our stay at this lovely hotel. The property is beautiful and extremely well kept. The staff were attentive and helpful, they even provided us with coffee and pastries at 5am before we left for our AM flight. We were in room 7, and I agree with past reviews- it’s beautiful and well appointed. My only complaints are the room’s ventilation- it got a bit warm and stuffy. A small fan is in the room but it wasn’t enough to circulate throughout the suite. The shape of the room basically prevents good airflow. On cool days and nights this is a non issue, but we certainly didn’t want to use the lovely fireplace while we were there! We also didn’t have the private, quite stay others have mentioned. Perhaps we were just victims of rude fellow guests- a lady sitting by the water feature talking loudly on her phone just outside our open window two nights in a row (the second night I gave her a dirty look from the window and she left :) guests speaking loudly in the main courtyard, doors slamming, likely all amplified by the need to keep the windows open. These weren’t major annoyances but we just didn’t get the tranquil stay I anticipated after reading past reviews. Maybe we were just there during a full house weekend- our third, last night was actually much quieter. In closing, please don’t hesitate to stay here but be aware it can be a bit noisy and potentially warm. Overall it’s a lovely property, I doubt you can do much better in Antigua!

Great Accommodations while attending the Agritrade Fair 2022

Fantastic accommodations! My oversized room had a vaulted ceiling in both the bed area and bathroom. This is newer property that has the feel and charm of one built a century ago. The staff is very attentive to any needs, and the food and service is top notch. We also held a small private dinner in their banquet area which was 5 star! I highly recommend this property and will be back!

My boyfriend and I visited Antigua for the first time and we stayed at Good Hotel. We found it online during our research and didn’t know much about it. We arrived and everyone was soooo kind, the place is absolutely adorable and so clean. The hotel exceeded our expectations and we ended up staying an extra night instead of where we were supposed to stay next. The rooms are so clean and spacious compared to other spots we’ve seen in the city. Amazing price value and great staff. Can’t get over how much we loved it and we hope to be able to return again!!! We love the good hotel and antigua!!!! Would love to visit the other locations in different cities.

Beautiful boutique hotel in Antigua

Reviewed By lovetotravel00

We were celebrating my daughter’s wedding in April, and many guests stayed at this hotel as it was very conveniently located. The rooftop terrace was beautiful and very serene; we sat there for breakfast almost every day and also at night after a long day. I would suggest making it more of an attraction at the hotel by setting out flowers, candles, etc to make it feel more of a spot to get some respite after a long day. The pool is not really a great swimming pool, but more of a visual enhancement for the beautiful gardens on the main level. We scheduled a lovely brunch for our guests on Saturday; the food was very nice and though we had to provide our own floral centerpieces, they set up the tables perfectly. I would agree that the rooms are dark; however, this is, in part, the architecture that was popular at the time this was built. Perhaps as Antigua becomes a more sought-after destination for tourism this hotel will be able to update and renovate. But the courtyard and foliage is unparalleled, and service was wonderful. Thanks to Diego and his staff!

Rooms are not huge but very comfortable, we got a room at the back of the hotel which was good to sleep as there was not a lot of noise.

It was like a tranquil, private retreat from the hustle and bustle of the town. I can't think of when I have had a better experience at a hotel.

Our inn has nine suites and three double rooms. Just beyond the entrance, there is an inviting central garden and fountain surrounded by a veranda that is quintessential Antigua. Our restaurant is considered one of the finest in the country. Its reputation for "international cuisine with a twist" has made it a favorite with Guatemalans and international travelers alike. Many consider Meson Panza Verde to be the preferred destination for their stay in Beautiful Spanish Colonial Antigua, the land of eternal spring.

Very Relaxing and Enjoyable Stay

Reviewed By rachaisson

This was our third stay at Meson Panza Verde, and it will always be our hotel of choice when travelling to Antigua. We stayed in Room 6 this time, which is a very spacious and comfortable room with a large dedicated (to Room 6) veranda overlooking the lovely common courtyard. Very much enjoyed relaxing in the hammock listening to the birds sing in the morning. The restaurant is excellent and the included breakfast is very good. The staff was extremely attentive in providing impeccable service. Be aware that as a boutique hotel, the rooms are each very unique. A few rooms are much smaller than others, so carefully read the description of which room you are booking. It is very much worth paying a little extra for the larger rooms. Looking forward to our return visit to Meson Panza Verde.
