The best available Hostels hotel to stay near Southern Poland

May 2, 2023 Christa Meece

Marked by the Tatra (called Tatry locally) Mountains that form the country’s southern border with Slovakia, Southern Poland consists of three Viovodships (Provinces): Opole, Silesian and Lesser Poland (Malopolska). Many beautiful medieval castles are still found in the region, including Moszna in Opole and the massive 400-room Ksiaz in Silesia. Lesser Poland is home to bustling Krakow, the country’s third-largest city. The region’s mountains and green areas are perfect for outdoor adventure.

ALWAYS DOUBLE CHECK THE PAYMENT - INCOMPETENT RECEPTION!!!

Reviewed By ewelinakral

Incompetent reception, when I got home I found out that the payment was taken from the pre-authorization card, even though I had paid with a different card at the hotel. Pre-authorization is only about holding funds, not charging them! The reception's mistake costed me an additional 10 euros (currency conversion plus an additional fee at the bank). The reception desk has no basic knowledge of banking transactions, and unqualified personnel shouldn't handle operations with the client's money!!! When I contacted them, they simply ignored my complaint. I was also denied contact with the manager. After two days of arguing with the staff who simply shouldn't work in hospitality, I decided to contact Booking.com directly. Booking.com solved the matter immediately, but remember - if you have any problem, don't count on the staff! About the room - no towels, most of the time cold water, even after waiting longer, is warm, not hot. They don't clean the rooms. Dirty sheets in the corridors. There are suspicious people walking around the facility. You can hear everything from the neighbors next door. There are much better accommodations in Cracow, for instant Dizzy Daisy Hostel - cheaper, closer to the Old Town and with friendly staff.

Hostel stay, Police case

Reviewed By Sindy C

The https://shh.travel/ website shows 6 co-owners, highly responsive to positive comments but completely indifferent to complaint email. So I post my unanswered email here. My husband and I stayed at Dorm 3 of Dizzy Daisy Downtown Hostel Krakow from January 27-29, 2022. Dorm 3 is fully booked on the 29th so we moved to Dorm 1 instead. We are elderlies (and we are Asian) very much prefer lower bunk beds. My husband went to Dorm 1 after 10am to check available lower bunks. One young man staying at Dorm 1 asked my husband "What do you want". My husband said we stay at Dorm 1 tonight. The man then told my husband to speak at a lower voice because someone is sleeping but he spoke much louder. I went to Reception to brief the lady receptionist about this unfriendly person in Dorm 1. At around 11.30am, my husband went to Dorm 1 to check available lower bunks again. The man ordered my husband to "get out or I am going to make a complaint at Reception". My husband replied "Let's go together to Reception". On the way down the stairs, the man swearing at my husband. Just a few steps before reaching the ground, the man, with both hands, pushed my husband from the back. My husband hit on the wall and bounced through the door to the Reception area. My husband fell on his knees and physically hurt. The Receptionist told the man to stop. Three staying guests helped to bring my husband standing up. The incident was witnessed and the hostel said it's recorded by CCTV. The Receptionist told the man to leave but offered to give him a refund. I disagreed to let him go and asked the Receptionist to call the Police - this is an assault which is a criminal offence. The man went back to the Dorm to pack. Receptionist called Security and "I thought" Security called the "Police". In about 10 minutes, the man returned the keys at Reception. Receptionist told him he need to wait for the Police. Without insisting to get a refund, the man said "good bye" and ran away like a fugitive. Soon after the man stepped out, two Security Guards arrived. I said to the guards they should bring the man back as he had just walked out. That did not happen. I was offered an explanation though. Policemen came. Two of them took my husband going around in a Police car trying to find the man but to no avail. I strongly insisted to file a report at the Police Station to have the man arrested. My husband decided not to proceed as the man had already paid a price to have disgraced his country and his fellow Danish. After Policemen left, I asked the Receptionist our accommodation arrangement for the night. We were offered a free upgrade to a twin-room with shared bathroom but after a quick discussion with husband we thought we should be compensated for a free room for the night. The Receptionist told me to come back after 2pm and get a reply from the Reception Manager. I spoke to Reception Manager at 4pm, she was calm and not quite empathetic as if assault is no big deal in this hostel. She relayed the Hostel Manager's words - a free room tonight is not possible. The hostel offers 30% discount for tomorrow (we did not book for tomorrow). I asked the RM if the Hostel Manager had told her to pass on any regards/apology to us. The RM did not reply. I assume the answer is "No". I sent email (2 times) to the 6 co-owners of SMART Hotels & Hostels. It has been 9 days now. I hear nothing. I asked the management: - How can the hostel be so lenient to a violent guest by offering refund and let him go after a criminal assault? - How can the hostel be so indifferent to the suffering of an innocent guest being assaulted by a violent guest - no apology, no kind words from the Hostel Manager. - I checked the website krakowhostel.pl, twin/double rooms with shared bathroom are available. How come a free room for the night as a kind gesture/apology to the terrible incident happened not possible? - Last but not least, how can a person with no hospitality heart and soul be in the position of hostel manager? I still looking forward to a management response.

They (different people from administration) lied that they did pre-authorization and didn't change money. One woman said "this is a very small amoint. May be you didn't pay attention that money were refunded/unblocked". I had to ask bank to do chargback and today I received money. Hostel wrote every month from March till August that they didn't receive my money and will not refund. Also hostel wanted in March to change dates of booking till the end of May. I proposed to change to November 2020. They are very non-friendly to their customers
