The best available Hostels hotel to stay near Gambia

May 3, 2023 Malia Yoakum

This small country in western Africa has become more popular recently as a beach destination for European travelers. It’s a relatively short flight, there’s no time difference, and lodging is generally very affordable. River Island National Park in Banjul is fantastic for watching wildlife (especially the native baboons).

My cohort and I were at this YMCA for almost two months and had an excellent experience! The rooms were nice and the staff treated us like family. The staff was also very accommodating to any requests we had.

Friendly staff and a great cook

Reviewed By SAMEHEAD2014

I stayed here just over a week ago and even though it basic, it is a very clean hostel, it has good wifi, and hot water. I spoke to the manager and asked is he could get a sign or some way to locate it a bit easier as it's hard to find (like most hostels). However, good location and as mentioned in the title, the chef is a goddess in the kitchen. They offer cooked meals that are priced very fairly and taste "AMAZING". Thanks for the good time.

Nice hostel although a few things to improve

Reviewed By JamesFFC

The location is great (near to transport hubs and various restaurant and shop options). The hostel itself is very clean and there is a wonderfully large living room/kitchen area which is well stocked. There are comfortable sofas and a range of books that you are free to take whenever. WiFi works generally very well across the hostel. There are, however, things that need to be improved. 1) There must be a sign on the outside of the hostel. At the moment it is utterly impossible to know which building is the hostel as there is no indication whatsoever on the gate outside. 2) Mosquitoes. There were, to put it mildly, thousands. Mosquito nets have to be installed in all of the dorm rooms to make the sleeping slightly tolerable. If you do not have a net yourself you will end up with many, many bites. 3) I also didn't find the staff massively helpful and there was no general tour of the hostel when I first checked in. Often they weren't hugely approachable. This is a new hostel and has the basis for an excellent backpacking option in Banjul but a few things definitely need to be sorted out.

Í LOVED TO LOOK AT HUNDRES OF GRAPEFRUITS ON THE TREE OUTSIDE OUR BALCONY...

Reviewed By MaireM

i flied to gambia for a week in order to marriage during that time. we got a room downstairs because i have difficult to go in stairs. room was simple but clean with a very bread, nice bed, fridgerator, tv, 2 chairs, one glas table, fan, 2 night tables and one wardrobe. bathroom was ok even water came first out without enough power and was not warm. they fixed that when we told about that. breakfast we got where we wanted to garden, to our balcony or to our bed. we eat it always on the balcony so i could see the big grapefruit tree with hundreds of yeallow, big grapefruits. they promised that i get one with me to sweden. very quiet Place. only bad thing for us was that the nearest restaurang, which was at the end of the road was too far away for me to walk who have back problems. we had our own taxi all the week. no shops, bars or restaurants near. my new husband liked our Place so much!
