The best available Bed and Breakfast Inns to stay near Zealand

April 28, 2023 Tonie Szymanski

Denmark's largest island is so much more than simply the home of the country's dynamic capital, Copenhagen. Zealand also offers a delightful array of holiday homes and villas, pleasing harbors and sandy beaches, fringed by forests where castles lurk. Major destinations include the UNESCO-designated, Dutch Renaissance-style Kronborg Castle in Helsingor and the Viking attractions, cathedral and music festival of Roskilde. To the south bobs a flotilla of beautiful and relatively untouched islands.

Mixed feeling

Nice brand new hotel in the center of Copenhague. The breakfast doesn’t worth the price as the food is mostly ultra-processed (freezed croissant and bread): come on you have beautiful bakery just around the corner. Finally, very disappointed by the unfriendly front desk staff that was really unable to deal with very simple request as getting a receipt at checkout. Urgent training needed!

Extraordinary wedding party weekend, cozy vibe, spectacular staff – super hygge!

Reviewed By Wendi K

As a global event planner myself, I am not an easy critic to impress. For 6 months in 2019 I worked with Frederikke to plan our wedding weekend at the South Zealand Bed and Breakfast, Jungshoved Præstegaard. As well as one of the team and part of the family who owns and manages the inn, Frederikke is a professional wedding planning. We had nearly 40 guests attending and coming in from all directions globally, including ourselves all the way from Seattle. This was our first trip to Denmark. We wanted to celebrate in a setting that would delight both us and our guests but that would not be stuffy or suffocate our hoped for vibe with formality. And, we also wanted a setting that was authentic, possessed elegance and style while being easy going, cozy and intimate. Jungshoved Præstegaard fit all our wishes. Our dinner party was set-up at Jungshoved Præstegaard to follow our Saturday afternoon wedding ceremony at an old church north of Præstø. Since I live in the US, the entire time, Frederikke and I collaborated on planning from a distance via email and phone calls. She was a delight to work with, responsive, creative, and focused on the details. This included but was not limited to helping organize and source catering & cake, blocking guest rooms, transportation to and from the church, and many special touches. The church and ceremony itself we were required to book through another source, but the church would be well served to engage Frederikke as a site booker. On the appointed Friday in August 2019 our nearly 40 guests arrived at the Jungshoved Præstegaard. The big moment! Frederikke and her whole family were on hand to check-in and welcome my husband and I as well as our family and friends. Although due to the number Jungshoved Præstegaard could not accommodate all our guests with their own guest rooms, Frederikke helped secure B&B accommodations nearby and was on hand on Friday to check in all guests. At Jungshoved Præstegaard we had the entire place to our self for the weekend. Everyone was impressed by how Frederikke’s family embraced and welcomed all of us, fed us, and accommodated us so comfortably in the Jungshoved Præstegaard’s lovely picturesque rooms. All were moved by the lush, verdant and gorgeous landscape Jungshoved Præstegaard is set in. It is a special place. It turned out to be an amazing weekend: casual, unique, and easy going for all. After our wedding ceremony on Saturday, Jungshoved Præstegaard’s team managed our dinner party from beginning to end, and all that went along with it: the cater and the food, table settings, wine, drinks, and cake – of course, cake! They set bon fires burning for us and guests were happy and delighted, with generous and moving toasts flowing all night. As a bride and groom, we could not have asked for an anymore cozy (hyggelig), community- centric weekend to celebrate and mark a moment we very much wanted our friends and families to enjoy. Uniformly our guests concurred: a spectacular time was had by all! New friendships were made, and old ones reconnected. We all left smiling, impressed and touched by the hospitality and the sense of Denmark Jungshoved Præstegaard’s owners imparted and shared with all of us. Jungshoved Præstegaard and its proprietors were key to creating a deeply cozy, joyous and celebratory experience. Our guests unanimously felt the same. Words like, “magical” and “delightful” were said again and again all weekend. A foot note on the basics: Jungshoved Præstegaard Bed and Breakfast is sparkling clean, it is set in a romantic and picturesque landscape; they have a number of different style accommodations and most have private bathrooms; they serve a robust European-style continental breakfast and the staff is very personal and engaging. Good for groups, families, or just a couple wishing to get away for a few days of peace and relaxation. My husband and I look forward to visiting again and simply hanging out a few days, taking it all in again, chilling out, and sleeping in.

This hotel is 2,5 star tops.

Hyggeligt, men

I was taken to the room, and informed about all necessary details. Very clean, minibar, coffee and tea facilities. The bed a little on the hard side. Great menu in the restaurant and service, atmosphere as well as the food way above average. Due to early departure, a lunchbox was prepared. Will most definitely be back if in the area.

Excellent Location and Service!

Reviewed By CBEAUTYALLAROUND

My husband and I just returned from our European vacation with a stop in Copenhagen on the way home and absolutely loved Copenhagen and staying at The Socialist Hotel! First the hotel is located in the heart of everything and makes it easy to walk around and see everything. Next the hotel is fairly new and they used the best of everything which makes your stay a luxury one. The rooms are small but that is standard in many hotels in Europe but the quality of the amenities more than make up for the small room. The bed was so comfortable and the bedding soft and the toiletries were amazing....I wanted to buy the soap and lotion! The breakfast was lovely and cozy in their dining space. Also I want to give a big shout out to all the incredible staff who gave such stellar service! From the 1st welcome to checkin and especially our last night we got back to the hotel late from sightseeing and needed dinner which the kitchen had just closed but the front desk manager, I believe his name was Nik (he had just had a new baby) arranged to have the kitchen prepare us burgers and we really enjoyed sitting in the lounge area on the couches enjoying a wonderful meal and wine our last night....they went above and beyond to give us such an amazing last memory of this most special hotel! The early morning employee too was so great making sure we had a taxi waiting to get us to the airport. We truly appreciated how happy the staff was and their desire to serve and make our stay perfect. Thank you all so very much for all your incredible service and care and giving us such a memorable stay we will treasure always!

Lovely Hotel, Friendly Staff and Great Location

Reviewed By TravellingDaveB

Stayed here for just one night on a short visit to Helsingor. A very friendly welcome and a good room. Very clean. Bed was comfortable. The location is perfect, right in the centre of town, but on a fairly quiet street. The station and ferry terminal are just several minutes walk. I really like this hotel and would definitely stay here again if I ever return to the area. Recommended.
