The very best of bed and breakfast hospitality

Reviewed By ABWilliams2014

We stayed three nights at Eastward House and experienced the very highest level of bed and breakfast hospitality. Patrick and Keiko are the most gracious of hosts and our en suite room was immaculate and very well equipped. What Eastward House has become known for is their food and it is a reputation well deserved. Breakfast is three quite delicious courses, starting with fresh fruit. Patrick laughed when he told us they had won awards for their porridge but it is entirely justified. Our third course was the most delicious of fish on two of the three days and a scotch fillet of beef on the third. Another thoughtful touch is an upstairs lounge for guests that has a varied library of both books and music. In sum we experienced a combination of amazing food and the most genuine of hospitality and left feeling more like friends than boarders. We recommend Eastward House to anyone looking for the perfect bed and breakfast experience.

Beautiful house with lovely, friendly, welcoming hosts and a superb breakfast. The room was very comfortable and cosy, in an excellent location and with a good outlook. Breakfast in the morning was extra special with many home made ingredients. Or son was made very welcome.

Bellevue Inn

A Gem of a Hotel

Reviewed By donnatU5494DI

Congratulations, if you are reading this review of this little gem it means you have got past the Tripadvisor trick of showing you the places that pay Booking,Com commission first. And means you got past where hotels in Thurso (a mere 90 min Ferry journey away) appear before places in the village. Bellevue Inn may not look much, a wee bit down at heel even, but the room is very comfortable and the welcome from Margaret is very friendly. No wee uht containers in you room, but milf put in a fridge outside your room for you. I am disabled and was delighted to find that the shower was a wet room and chairs had been laid out so I could was seated. There is a nice little bar in the hotel and was great to chat to Margaret about Orkney and this family run hotel. In the morning breakfast was a continental breakfast on a trolley stuffed full of breads, cereals, yogurts, juices, fruit. My regret was I had to dash to catch an early bus to Kirkwall so could not do the breakfast justice. If you are Staying in St Margaret's Hope I would say certainly consider staying here.

St. Margaret's Cottage

St. Margaret's Cottage is a traditional, sandstone-built cottage. From its commanding position above the village of St. Margaret's Hope there are superb views down to the bay and across the water to Scapa Flow and the islands of Burray, Hunda and Hoy. Inside, the accommodation is deceptively grand but with a welcoming and comfortable feel. Guest Accommodation comprises double, twin and single rooms - all with private bathroom facilities (two rooms en-suite and one with large bathroom). All rooms have TV and coffee making facilities. The guests' sitting room has Sky TV and there is also private internet access, Via Broadband.Breakfasts are served in the dining room with an early breakfast also available (ideal for the return ferry crossing!).Boat charters, wildlife guides and transportation can all be arranged - just let us know your personal requirements and we'll organize the rest for you!

Lovely place, in desperate need of loving care…

Reviewed By Elisabetta G

LOVELY 1883 red sandstone cottage, TRULY CONVENIENT TO THE FERRY (less than five minutes). Our room was decent, with good MATTRESSES and GOOD SHOWER; nevertheless the shower room was barely acceptable, as to size and décor (THREADBARE MATS AND TERRIBLE TOILET BRUSH). Besides that, the WINDOW SASH WAS NOT EASILY OPERABLE: they put an ashtray to keep the window open, but if you remove it, you’ll got your work cut out for opening it again! Please also note that here there’s a NO KEYES policy, either for room and front door! Strange to us, but we guessed (and hoped) that St Margaret is a safe place. Unluckily, we found the same CARELESSNESS in the courtyard (which is the first glance when you arrive), and at (DESOLATE) BREAKFASTTIME… Maybe we were just unlucky, arriving when the owner was not there… we don’t know who she was, but she looked a little bit bewildered… To be honest, we’ve been more distressed about all that… rather than irritated, because this beautiful house would deserve more care :-(
