Quick visit to Sonoma

Reviewed By mreifsch

On a short visit to California, my wife and I chose to spend a day in the Sonoma county and selected the Gaige House for an overnight stay. We chose the Woodside suite, though I suspect they all are very nice, which was large and private. The decor and setting reminded us of past visits to Japan which we greatly enjoyed. There is nothing that I could critique about our visit. We enjoyed the room, setting, wine and cheese hour, breakfast, pool, hot tub, fire pits, and the setting overall. We found the staff to be polite, pleasant and helpful. My only disappointment is that I could spend another few days there.

Hometown Hospitality 10/10

Reviewed By Morgan B

Recently stayed at the River Belle for my Birthday and I was absolutely blown away. The wine and charcuterie happy hour southed my soul after a lovely nap in the carney Palm suite. The River belle is a 10-15 minute to the best shops and dinning. Had the best birthday breakfast with Mia Bangs- (make sure you treat her your Mellon and grapes) and Mitsy! Wish our stay could’ve lasted longer but very grateful for the hospitality. 10/10!

Birthday Getaway

Reviewed By Russ M

Booked this Inn for my birthday getaway, knowing that it was within a block of the Sonoma Square. The Inn is a nice quaint facility with 5 rooms. Our room had a queen bed, little sitting area with a cafe table set, dresser and closet and bathroom with a shower. Stepping out the back door brought you to an enclosed "garden area" with another cafe table set. Each of the three rooms in our wing of the facility had the enclosed garden. Each morning a tray of fresh pastry, fruit cup, granola and yogurt with a carafe of coffee was delivered to the backdoor for our leisurely consumption. While the facility sits right off the street our room was exceedingly quiet with no noise intrusion from the street. We will be going back for future wine tasting trips to Sonoma Valley.

Cozy lovely little spot!

This place was perfect for our little getaway. Totally exceeded expectations. Cozy, super clean, check in was remote and seamless with clear instructions since we arrived after hours, walked into a room with the heater on after a chilly day (super thoughtful). Spotlessly clean, well stocked with amenities, I had a nice hot bath and climbed into the cozy bed with plenty of pillows. Cute little cabin courtyard set up, feels nostalgic, very green outside and close to town. Thank you so much for the lovely experience!

A nice hotel off the beaten path

Reviewed By PeterBallant

Found this hotel on line and was pleasently surprised. There are a few restaurants near by but downtown Sonoma is a number of blocks away. The rooms were small but comfortable and clean with free wifi. Boyes Blvd which is right behind the hotel felt like a racetrack at night which was loud at times but died down usualy by 10pm. This is a no frills hotel so if you want all the fluff and buff you need to book elsewher but if you want a nice small hotel with a comfortable bed and a clean room this is your place. There wasn't a chest of drawers in our room but there might be in others for we just had a small closet. There was a tv and as I said free wifi. There are two rooms on the second level so if you have trouble climbing stairs you will want to pick a downstairs room since there isn't a elevator.

Calderwood Inn

Known on the California and Sonoma County Landmarks Registry as the John Miller House, this historic Queen Anne Victorian was built in 1902. Miller was a prominent fruit grower, packer and dehydrator in the early 1900s. He was also one of the first to make a commercial business of marketing dehydrated fruit. Among Miller's claims to fame is that he was the first provider to the U.S. Military of dehydrated foods. Known as K-rations during WW I and MREs today, Miller was cited by the military for "feeding the troops during WW I". (1) Miller and his wife were, like many prominent citizens of the community, anxious to furnish their home lavishly. The home is reputed to be the first in Healdsburg with two bathrooms, with indoor plumbing upstairs and downstairs. The noted horticulturist, Luther Burbank, was a good friend and assisted in the design and development of the original landscape at the front of the home, some of which remains today. The large cedar, cypress, and redwood heritage trees were planted by Burbank over 100 years ago. The lush grounds have been accented with rose bushes and numerous flowering shrubs. The same archaeological report from Sonoma State University indicates that some of the first plantings of some of Burbank's new species were planted on the Miller property. Sadly, the location and botanical name of the plants were never recorded. It is unknown if they remain on the property today. The home remained in the Miller family until the late 1930s and was a private residence until the early 1980s when it became a Bed and Breakfast. The inn has undergone extensive restoration over the years. Beautiful hand-silk screened period wall and ceiling papers accent the spacious common areas and some guest rooms. The papers are produced by Bradbury & Bradbury of Benicia, CA and are based on designs of William Morris, a prominent textile designer of the mid- to late 1800s.The formal, yet welcoming rooms include a spacious parlor with fireplace-the perfect place to enjoy the morning paper or a board game on a quiet afternoon. The spacious dining room that seats up to 14 showcases original wainscoting and built-in china cabinet and bench. The large antique table is where guests dine on Calderwood's signature gourmet breakfasts. The covered front porch with its antique wicker furniture and lacquered floor beckons you to enjoy the lush grounds, review the activities of your day or curl up with a good book. The porch is often used by local wineries who frequently co-host our complimentary evening wine hour. All nine guest rooms have private baths. Each room is decorated differently to incorporate an extensive collection of beautiful, yet comfortable period
