The best available Bed and Breakfast Inns to stay near Faroe Islands

April 29, 2023 Margarita Chappel

Bobbing in the frothing North Atlantic, the remote, 18-piece Faroes are a picturesque patchwork of emerald pastures, dotted with sheep, gaily-hued cottages and tree-free moors. The sea is never more than three miles distant in this proud, assured land, where deep-rooted traditions remain strong. The coasts boast deep fjords, steep cliffs and looming headlands. Explore these fjords by wooden sloop or sail the coast by schooner. Walk the fells and brave the unpredictable weather to puffin spot.

Cashing in on tourism. Seemed overpriced even by Faroese standards

Reviewed By rachelandtudorm

We stayed one night in the hostel room (paying hotel prices). Effectively had to have the overpriced evening meal as there was apparently no kitchin . But the location is superb and views amazing. But generally Gjov rather over-rated as one of the 'must see' destinations in the Faroes.

'It warmed on us'

Reviewed By Christian W

The introduction was a little strange, but why not. The hotel is a rather big building with an attached restaurant, which is separate from the hotel (as we were told many times). We stayed in a good room. However, we would have liked to have stayed in a room with a view over the harbour rather than to the back of the hotel. A little strange considering we booked about four month ahead. The restaurant offered nice food. On arrival there was nobody in the reception. Instead we picked a phone up and were given our room number. A rather strange experience. When leaving the hotel we managed to pay the hotel bill to one of the cleaners.

Sistemazione comoda

Reviewed By Kiwi_IT5

Basic but comfortable

Reviewed By lovelypainter

I've given the hotel an 'average' score but actually it's a bit better than that - you can't really expect luxury on the Faroe Islands (small population surrounded by craggy mountains and steep bare hillsides and everything imported) and the hotel is probably fairly typical of the smaller towns at time of writing. It's spotlessly clean, fresh quiet and comfortable in a basic kind of way and the two staff we met were friendly. Our double room was compact (small) with a pleasant view of houses and the hillside at the back. The bed was also smaller than usual but still comfortable. There was a TV and Wifi. Like most other hotels we stayed in they don't provide tea and coffee making facilities in the room and the bathroom (small basin and 'wet-room' type shower with a curtain) has a fixed container with liquid soap. We asked about and booked dinner there because we'd heard there aren't places open in which to to eat in Tvoryri after 7pm. Dinner was a fixed menu of fish with vegetables and side salad made by the lady who served it. It's good home-cooking and we found it delicious. Breakfast is continental - cold meats and cheese, breads and cereals with some fruit available and yoghurt. A small selection but ample and good. The hotel has three floors and flights of stairs but no lift. As far as I could see there were no rooms accessible without climbing stairs but if you have problems with stairs you could check this.

NOT what I have expected of a hotel

Reviewed By springbank

Stayed one night as a part of a big group traveling around Faroe Islands. The location is the only good think to mention: A few minutes drive from the ferry terminal. But if you not have a car the location is in the middle of now where. The building looks like a barak from the outside. Inside it have very basic furniture and could be used as a camp for school children. The reception were not function and in a mess. A kind lady directed and escorted us to our room and then I think the staff left all of us alone in the "hotel". Nothing to do or buy! The common room where furnished with tables and chairs that have could been used in a school class. Our room really need a serious work-over and not just a refurbishment. To say it is a bit outdated is too kind! It was quite cold in our room when we arrive, 17-18 degree. The wallpaper were in several spot looking like it could fall down. The television was a small and old one. The wifi did not reach our room. The two ladies preparing the breakfast, put on a big table, were very kind. Very ordinary, like on a school camp.
