Maybe 100 yards from the water is a hard paved walkway through the sand and the dunes. This makes for a nice waterfront walk to enjoy the ocean breezes without getting bogged down in the sand. There are tourist stands and Takeout along here and most were busy on the very nice day when we were there. Well worth a nice walk.

Even though it was very windy and not that hot, it was a very nice time. Had a long walk and njoyed the sound and the smell of the sea. Lots of seats that you can rent, but not many were still open/available. unfortunately, no public seats/benches on the beach itself, but you can sit on the sand if that does not bother you. I imagine it is a good place for swimming and tanning in summer. There is also a FKK beach (nudist).

We arrived to Warnemunde port on Norwegian cruise line.10 minutes walk from the port to this small and beautiful fishermen town. Alter Strom is long raw of traditional small houses,souvenir shops and cafes, it is a nice place to stroll around. Be sure to have Euro currency because they do not take any other kind of currencies other wise there is only one exchange shop at the railway station and you have to walk there. on this small town you barely can find cars so it is very tranquil place.

We visited Warnemunde for the day and took the opportunity to go to the top of the lighthouse. About 150 steps but the staircase which is narrow and windy is 2 way. A brilliant view from the top and you can see for miles.

The Cathedral is sparse, hard wooden pews, no stained glass. The only adornments are two shipmodels that hang from the ceiling, testimony to the town's history as a port. Also, there's a wonderful carved altar piece that looks quite old, almost medieval.

We had originally planned to take the train into Rostock but after completing a tour of Croatia a few days earlier we opted to stick around Warnemunde having arrived via cruise ship from Copenhagen. The port location makes it easy to access Warnemunde by foot and this is always a plus whenever one cruises. We enjoyed checking out the food options on Mittelmole, strolling Kirchenstrasse, past the Church and popping in and out of the various shops and boutiques on Muhlenstrasse. We walked on the western border of Kurpark to Seepromenade and checked out the beach before heading towards the Lighthouse and Teapot before needing to traverse Am Strom slowly due to it being packed with fellow visitors. We enjoyed our short visit to Warnemunde. As the title indicates the highlight of our visit was when our ship departed. The sun had set and as we pushed off German music was playing through the multiple speakers that line the port. Additionally people had lined the land area and waved to us along with holding up their smartphone lights. This was impressive and something I've never experienced and will not forget. This is an advantage to having a port that is so close to the center of town. I took video and got my LED flashlight on strobe to wave back. Danke, Warnemunde.

Warnemunde is primarily a German tourist town and universal English is not a part of your experience here. You can overcome this almost entirely with a stop at the tourist information on the way in. They have excellent English speaking guides and good suggestions about things to see in your limited time. They can give you guides and pamphlets in English with information and historical details. A stop at tourist information will really improve your visit to Warnemunde.

We were walking all day and got to the park by accident, late afternoon. The green lawns and huge trees are so beautiful! We found a bench and sit down to catch our breath but soon did not want to leave. It was quiet and cool and we could just sit there till dark. On the other side of the road, next to the park, we could see the beautiful building of the Kur hotel but did not go there. If we got there earlier, we would have stayed longer and explore much more. From the park it was easy to get our way back - we just walked towards the sea and turn to the right in the direction of the light tower.

This museum is right near the tourist information which recommended it to us. For 3 euros you get admission and an audio tour in English. The museum covers the development of the area from a sleepy fishing village 100 years ago to one of Germany's most popular resort towns. They have many fishing related artifacts and do a good job of taking you back 100 years. This is a smaller museum but is packed with history and the story is told in an organized sequence worthy of any big city museum. It was nice weather when we were there and the museum was not crowded. This is a must see attraction.
