Tatai Waterfall

Reviewed By fire-tower

It was quite a ride to Tatai Waterfall by boat as we did not go by speedboat. The boat actually went further away from the waterfall, making a loop before heading back towards it (ie. basically for sight-seeing). When we approach the waterfall, we thought it was smaller than we had imagine it to be.
The boatman stopped the boat against the rocks, and we got off the boat and make a short trek to the waterfall. It was a nice stroll around the waterfall, walking on the rocks with the cool water flowing underneath your toes. If you came prepared, you can also swim there as some have done.
The view was amazing too. At the top, you can see the gentle water flow, and the water moving faster against crevices before the waterfall. Be very careful though - the rocks are slippery and 2 tourists fell as they walked on the rocks while we were there.
A sad thing though - other than plastic trash littered near the stalls set up to sell drinks and snacks at the top of the waterfall, there is were many empty beer cans and even pills left on the waterfall by inconsiderate visitors.

A wonderful trip. It starts with an hour boat ride inward. After arriving at the hike starting point the upward incline was aggressive, but the path leveled out. I would rate the path a bit below aggressive; not overly difficult, not super easy.
The waterfall was beautiful (October 29, 2017). The guides sent we're informative and pleasant. Given ample amount of time at the waterfall to enjoy swimming and had lunch there (provided; fried rice).
The trek back to the boat another hour and a half (same path) then boat back an hour. Great experience.

Octopuses Garden Diving Center

Experience some of the best diving in Cambodia with Octopuses Garden. You’ll find our little haven situated on the Island of Koh Sdach, far away from the main tourist tracks and close to some of the Kingdom’s hidden dive gems.

I was working in the Koh Rong archipelago and travelled up to Koh Sadak having heard great things about this different style of diving operation. The owners are highly competent, enthusiastic and experienced divers capable of anything from providing the most basic dive experiences through to expeditions out to the more advanced dive sites. Best of all, they (and their pet dogs and cat and their other guests) make you feel completely at home in a splendid location that is quite literally on the water. You can drop in to the house reef in just a few steps or take a traditional long tail dive boat out to the local or more distant dive sites. The diving at Condor Reef and Shark Island is superb, with beautiful formations of rocks and corals adorned by sea urchins and a wide variety of giant sponges and diverse marine life. You take coffee and breakfast as you travel and fabulous lunches in-between dives. The experience back home is every bit as impressive, with excellent food and good Norwegian banter. Your hosts Kris and Hege really look after you exceptionally well. Don't expect feather beds and flushing toilets. It's a place for grown up travellers. But do expect a lovely place to eat and sleep in a hand-built authentic and charming set up into which the owners have invested considerable time and thought. Adventurous travellers will enjoy this place immensely. So if you're a diver and in Cambodia with time for only one diving adventure, this is the best place to head for.

Koh Kong Wonders & Excursions

Located on the bank of a large river, koh kong is surrounding by the Indian ocean, the Cardamons mountains(jungle)and the biggest mangroves forest of Asia.I propose day and overnight boat trips to remote Wilderness white sand Islands Beaches, trekking, river canyoning, splendid Waterfalls sites, all in the Cardamon Mountains national park, full discovery of the 280km2 mangroves and much more. Beautiful, peaceful, untouched places, nature at its primitive state.

My husband and I enjoyed the half-day speedboat tour of the mangroves during our recent visit to Koh Kong. It was a beautiful excursion into the natural beauty of the area, and everything was delivered as promised. The driver was very capable and helpful, and the guide was pleasant although his English was limited. He could communicate adequately for our comfort, but was not able to explain a lot about what we were seeing. I would recommend this tour for anyone who wants to relax and enjoy the scenery without a lot of physical exertion.

Koh Kong SafariWorld

Reviewed By DiceyEye - Phnom Penh, Cambodia

On the CambodiaThailand frontier about 10 kms outside of Koh Kong is Safari World. It’s a zoo/amusement park that attracts visitors from all over southern Cambodia and southeastern Thailand. The park is known for its four animal attractions/performances: 1. the “boxing monkeys”. Actually a humorous vignette with orangutans in various costumes with one episode a boxing match. 2. The Bird Show. A variety of trained birds, macaws, parrots perform card tricks and interact with patrons. After the raucous orangutan show, the bird tricks come off low-key. 3. the Crocodile Show. That’s anything but low-key. Two fearless crocodile cowboys manage to somehow hypnotize the crocs, putting them in a kind of stupor and literally risk head and limb by placing them in the tranced-out croc’s mouth. 4.the Tiger Show. The big cats jump through flaming hoops and other routines, though the performance wasn’t boring, it didn’t have the same element of danger as the croc act.
Safari World also has one of the best laid out zoos with the healthiest selection of animals I’m seen in a developing country.
The wife and kids thoroughly enjoy the Safari World experience. So much so we’ve gone 5 times in the last two years, even though it entails a three day excursion.

We were told by Thamorda Restaurant that there is a one day tour to the island of Koh Kong by a company called Eco-Chic Adventure and we decided to go on it the next day. We went to explore the 7 Beaches of the island, purely untouched nature. One of the world's most spectacular with beautiful lagoons. I can not tell how much I love it there, we saw a deer coming out from the forrest but ran away as soon as it noticed us. Certainly a must-see when you are in Koh Kong, Cambodia, we spent some most enjoyable hours out there.
Lunch was cooked on board, fish and prawn were fresh off the boat, I swear!
Activity you are expected to do on this trip: Fishing, Snorkeling, Kayaking and Swimming

Community Based Eco-Tourism Day Tours

Reviewed By Davetimmermans - Can Tho, Vietnam

This is a review of the Chi Phat Community Based Eco tourism, highly recommended by lonely planet.
The missus and I were excited about this programme because it's for a good cause and looks interesting. It was our biggest letdown in Cambodia however.
We arrived after a bus ride from Phnom Penh and a 1 hour tuk tuk ride. Then we checked in at the visitors centre and opted for a cheap homestay. We were assigned ramshackle bicycles and went to our home stay. The house and our room were very clean. The home stays and visitors centre are probably the only clean things in this dusty worthless one horse town.
The unpaved roads are incredibly dirty and dusty and have potholes that could fit any of the emaciated cows that we saw fainting by the side of the road. They're also unlit so at night you can't see the unconscious cows, scrawny naked dirty children and other pedestrians. Life threateningly dangerous.
We wanted to go on a jungle trek but immediately upon arrival we changed our minds.
This is eco tourism Cambodia style. All profits go directly into the tour operators' pockets and nothing ends up in the community. This programme has been going on for years and yet the town and locals don't seem to be thriving.
We left early morning the next day...
On a final note. The bus tickets and tuk tuk to the bus stop sold at the visitors centre were $2 and $3 more expensive than usual but they didn't get to steal that money off us because we booked everything from our tuk tuk driver.
Avoid at all cost!
