This is about the finest chocolate you can find in the neighbourhood. There is a shop with local produce and you can see the chocolate being made.

Orval Abbey

Looks beautiful from the outside. Didn't realise you only walk amongst the ruins. Secondly don't understand why dogs are not allowed, certainly better behaved than some children, and are allowed in almost every restaurant. Why can they not have a glass wall between visitors and the beer making process, still complies with health and safety. Would make it more interesting. Don't see why cannot see more of the newer monastery, rather than having a glimpse through wrought iron window.

Abbaye d'Orval

Reviewed By fabcats39 - La Grange, Illinois

This abbey is so impressive, very large and beautifully kept up. A bit too manicured to my taste, I like old buildings a bit more rugged. You can only visit part of the abbey the other part is not open to the public; this mean you can visit the museum and the ruins of the old abbey after it was destroyed during the French Revolution. I really wish I had more time to hang around the garden and sit on a bench to take it all in.
The only things I regret is not able to experience the bier and the cheese inside the abbey. They have so much space and I do not understand why they do not have an authentic experience. In order to taste the regional products you have to go the the restaurant down the street which is just Blahhhhhh!!!!! Nothing special... not like in Val Dieu where you can sit in the courtyard of the abbey and enjoy both food, drinks and view. The bonus is that you can buy a case of the elixir at a very reasonable price:)

About 35-40 min from Sedan, we visited this well preserved historic site in the hills. New reception and museum building, where you can watch a couple of films, get basic information, and buy tickets. Don't miss the guided tour of the underground bunkers, destroyed in May 1940. The tour takes about 90 mins, bring a warm jacket, and solid boots, it can cold, moist, and slippery 35m below ground. Very knowledgeable guide, friendly and well informed. Our tour was in French, but he answered questions in excellent English. Very helpful lady at the reception desk too. Highly recommended.

This is a must do if you are in the region as it's part of their heritage, it's not an incredible visit but worth while doing to understand how the people in the region worked. The owner of the venue gives a friendly welcome, and after your visit you can enjoy some local beers.

Basilique Notre-Dame d'Avioth

Reviewed By Googly2010 - Tonbridge, United Kingdom

We were astounded to find such a beautiful old church on this side road from Belgium to France. Our visit was enhanced by being able to listen to a local choir practising. There is a nice cafe/restaurant opposite which we wish we had discovered earlier, rather than the drear cafe in the drear town of Montmedy, which is quite the most unattractive town we have ever seen in France. (Fortress notwithstanding!!)

Ce site est un havre de paix tellement la nature y est luxuriante.
Le pouding, l'ardoise et le gré s'y rencontrent parmi des traces de minerai de fer. Un lieu idyllique où pourraient se rencontrer Adam et Eve.
