The special wear required by the company was useful when out in the sea. Good briefing. Close enough to see the whales, I saw several! Amazing! Fishing after whale watching, quite easy to catch big fishes. The fishes caught could be tasted right after the tour. Yummy !

Bjorbodin Spa

Bjorboðin is a beer spa and a restaurant. We have 7 bathtubs made for two people each. When taking a beer bath, you bathe in a big tub filled with beer, water, hops and yeast. In our restaurant, we take up to 80 guests in seats. There we offer variety of meals and beer related food.

What more do you need than the headline description, to be convinced to go here??
Sit privately in a wooden casket filled with beer, hops, oils, warm water and drink beer from your private tap. They clean the bath after every use. They also have bigger baths outside which are not private but offer spectacular views. I wish i could have stayed here all day (although I do believe the one-hour experience is just right). After the spa you go into a relaxation room and just chill out and let the oils be absorbed by your skin. Really great activity to fit in while driving around, don't miss it!

Tvistur Horse Rental

Reviewed By NoFixedPlans - Toronto

We thoroughly enjoyed the friendly, low-key experience at the Tvistur farm. We have ridden before, but appreciated the refresher/guidance from the owner and his son prior to setting out. Their approach put us at ease and we felt comfortable throughout our ride as we crossed streams and roads and heard a bit about the history of the valley. The horses are beautiful and gentle and clearly very well cared for. We were lucky to be the only ones there that afternoon and so the two of us had a quiet, peaceful ride for a few hours. It's great fun when the horses pick up the pace a bit and you are whooshing down the path surrounded by the breathtaking scenery. Highly recommended!

Typical of the ubiquitous Icelandic geothermally heated municipal pools, this facility is exceptional. Large, new and clean, you can relax in your choice of pools heated to different temperatures or use the cooler main pool with lap lanes. Follow the instructions for showering before you enter the pool which keeps pools throughout Iceland very clean. Enjoy and relax !

This family run micro brewery is about 30 minute drive north of Akureyri, outside the small village of Arskogssandur. Our Intrepid guide arranged the tour the day before as an add-on and what a great experience it was.
Siggi Olafsson the son of the entrepreneurial parents, particularly his mother, who established the brewery, gave the tour to about 15 people, including 7 of us. He was informative and interesting and very generous, with his time, the tastings and allowing us to keep the glass provided. We tasted 4 or 5 different brews - try this one? say when!; not keen on that one? have a refill of one you did like!!
The brewery is flat out keeping up demand in Iceland and thus, can't export yet, but it will be expanding. Depending on your taste, the Pilsener and Lager are very drinkable.
At ISK2000 for the tour, it is money very well spent.
There is a restaurant and beer spa, owned by the brewery, just behind it, which we didn't try.
A huge thank you Siggi.

A surprising treat. Lots of memorabilia in separate original building museums. The photos of the sardine factories were amazing and educational. You got a sense of how people lived in this factory town, and the disposable income this new business brought. Previously people bartered for everything.

How to get to and get on the ferry: either purchase tickets online and print the voucher or get to Dalvik the day before and purchase at ticket office. You CANNOT purchase tickets at the ferry. If you plan on riding the public bus from Akureyri, realize you will only have a couple minutes to jump off the bus when you reach Dalvik and "run" to catch the ferry. You must have your ferry ticket in hand and the ferry does not wait for the bus; also you will not have time to go back to the ticket office to purchase a ferry ticket. If you plan to ride the 8:15 public bus from Akureyri, you can purchase the bus ticket either in the HoF or on the bus. This ferry is a working ferry that transports everything the people on Grimsey need to live. Passengers are equal to cargo... No special treatment. In the outside areas you will get wonderful views of sea life as well as sprays of sea water. The ferry takes three hours to reach Grimsey where you have four hours to hike on the island including the Arctic circle monument. Or you can spend two or three nights at a modest guest house. The island literally has millions of birds in the summer. Safe travels.
