This is a beautiful area. The Longfellow trail can be a challenge if you have any health issues but there are trails that intercept it so you can turn off. The Rhododendron trail behind the park office is a easy wonderful hike that takes you along the river. Lovely views. We would visit this forest again if in the area.

Clear Creek State park has it all if you're a camper. The RV sites are very big for your camper and in my case for little kids to run around. With the Clarion river a few steps away and many hiking trails to venture, this is one of the top State Parks in Pennsylvania.

Cook Forest State Park

Reviewed By Steve P - Harmony, Pennsylvania

2017 was our re-introductory year back into travel trailer camping. Pa, Ohio, W. Va., and NC were all destinations this year. We decided to camp with friends who we started the year with at Jamestown Campground in Pymatuning Pa. The Ridge campground at Cook Forest was our favorite campground of the year. We had a full service campsite...W/S/E. All utilities were easy to access, and easy to use. We also had a site that was dog friendly. Our site was spacious with a great "backyard". We had a large grassy area behind and around our camp site, along with a wooded area behind us. The site was fairly level with minimal leveling needed to be done. Backing in was easy also. Since we had a full service site we did not use the sewer station leaving the park. Bathrooms were clean but older. Some of the other State Parks we went to have done re-fits of their facilities. I didn't find this to be a problem as the hot water was plentiful (and the bathroom was clean). The campground was very quiet at night. A couple that came in late Saturday night across from the road from us was the only noise. They were loud talkers both late Saturday night, and very early Sunday morning. Our only real distraction the whole weekend. My wife and I are aggressive hikers and found the trail system at Cook Forest to be challenging and fun. There are two sets of trails that have trail heads starting from the campground itself. Convenient to not have to drive to a trail. The North Country Trail system goes through the Park. The Park's trails connect in with the North Country Trails. A good majority of the trails are moderate in challenge...good for our taste. We had guests for the majority of the weekend. Four deer moved in and out of our sites with regularity. The only downside was that we removed quite a few ticks from our dogs with brushes after hiking. It was October, and this is a bad time. Bring protection against those little critters. Wood was expensive here, but the campfire rings were top notch. Overall a great weekend, a nice campground and an excellent campsite. We will finish our year here again next year!!

The Farmer's Inn

The Farmer's Inn Wildlife Zoo is good for a family with little kids. Children can have a close up visit and hand-feed farm animals, tortoises and a camel. Other wild animals are in the zoo for viewing. Some of the animals are sleeping inside their animal houses and viewing can be limited at times.

Prices have increased again this year but is minimal for a small family. Other attractions include mini-golf, driving range, restaurant, snack bar and a small store. Parking is free but can be limited particularly on weekends.

Overall, I would recommend the Farmer's Inn Wildlife Zoo to families with young children.

Pale Whale Canoe Fleet

Family owned business located in the heart of Cook Forest State Park. We rent canoes, inner tubes, and kayaks to float down the wild and scenic Clarion River.

Reviewed By DiscountKing - Seneca, Pennsylvania, United States

Enjoy a few hours or day of river adventures with canoeing, kayaking or tubing down the Clarion River. Pale Whale offers a various lengths of adventures. Staff is kind and courteous.

During a dry summer season, the Clarion River runs low and you may have to maneuver around the rocks. While snakes can be seen around the river, they usually remain to themselves and do not bother many river enthusiasts due to the amount of traffic on the river.

The biggest downfall is river adventures are on a first-come-first-serve-basis. They do not accept reservations for an adventure.

Restrooms and a small snack area including Hershey's ice cream are on site.

Bottom Line: I would recommend Pale Whale, just make sure you have some time to wait. Exciting Adventures!

Jesse's Dream Park - The Mysterious Maze

Reviewed By jeanjane112 - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

I've driven past this place many times but finally stopped with a friend. So glad I did! This place is only open from May to Sept (closes after Labor Day), and is closed on Weds and Thurs. (Although the schedule could change: check it in person!) They change the layout every year.

The maze is cheap and not cheesy! We were concerned there would be jump scares or other "fun house" horrors but thankfully that is not the case. It is a maze, nothing more!

I think it ruins the effect to know about it before hand, so please don't read any more reviews and instead go check it out!

Cook Forest Canoe Rentals

Reviewed By Conwayluvs2travel - Pittsburgh

I have rented from Cook Forest Canoe Rentals in the past. This time we had them transport our personal kayaks up the river for $15pp. The Clarion River is beautiful. We chose the 10 mile trip. The young men that load your kayaks on the trailer do so with no care what so ever. One of our kayaks was brand new and we do understand that they are going to get scratched up and such but there is no need to just toss them. We asked the guy that took our money how the water was and he said that he and he and his guys went out the day before and never got their feet wet. The water was extremely low and there were many locations along the river that were so low that we had to get out and pull our kayaks. I find it hard to believe that just the day before the river was that much higher that they did not get stuck anywhere. When we arrived back at the rental place we were trying to carry our kayaks back up to the parking lot which requires going up a set a stairs, there was a group of 4 women standing/blocking the stairs taking pictures of their children on the river and they were too ignorant to even try to get out of our way and the employees of the rental place sat there and watched this take place and did not have the courtesy to ask the rude women to get out of our way while we are trying to carry our kayaks up the stairs. Probably will not rent /use this service again.

Integrative Massage and Wellness Studio

Relax and rejuvenate with a Therapeutic Massage or "Yoga in the Forest" class during your stay. Lovely massage studio is located on Cook Forest's beautiful and scenic River Road. Desiree Zeller is a licensed massage therapist with over twelve years of experience in bothing spa and therapeutic settings. Desiree is also a trained Yoga Teacher and leads gentle, summer classes in the studio's grassy front yard overlooking the river and surrounded by forest pines.

This massage was fantastic! I've been getting massages on a semi-regular basis (3-4 a year) for several years, and this massage definitely gets top five status. Desiree listened to what I needed, and she was very careful to work around a recent injury, offering alternatives as necessary. I also liked her aromatherapy options. I was sad when the massage ended, but happy about how relaxed I felt when it was over.

Visited summer 2015, with a large family.

If you want a horseback tour of Cook Forest, this is the place to go. The diversity of tree life in a not-too-long ride is quite impressive.

Very knowledgeable guides, and LOTS of horses to choose from - some appropriate for young children (my eight year old rode alone, first ride, did fine), others appropriate for pairs (my four year old rode with an adult), others appropriate for adults. Do listen to their recommendations - they know each horse's personality and will pick better than you will.

Next time we're in Cook Forest, and my kids are clamoring for another trip, we'll be back here for sure.
