One of the most beautiful towns in Mexico, still preserving a lot of its original architecture, walking down the streets you feel like in another place, another time. Everything always surrounded by the strong aroma of roasted coffee due to the many shops around the area that are constantly preparing the different blends for the costumers.

One of my most memorable experiences in Mexico. Even though I was the only visitor Arturo and his mother between them showed me the complete process from commercial finca to cup. If you want to know everything about coffee, from the seed to the plant, fruit, processing, preparation and tasting this is definitely a place to see. Even if I could see just few tiny coffee plants in the backyard of this country house the owner provides a lot of information about the world of coffee making: she knows a lot and very professional. At the end there is a tasting and also explains several ways to prepare it. It took from 11AM to 4PM without lunchtime... but definitely worth it! Reservations suggested. Price for the experience 360MXN. And you can also buy their products which are obviously very natural and good!

Living now in Mexico, it’s just incredible that when you turn any corner you discover something unique in all the world. Mexico is of course famous for its coffee and 75% comes from the State of Veracruz. But the true Capital of Coffee (Capital Cafetalera) is Coatepec, nestled at 1200 meters halfway between the humid coast and the cool altiplano above. From here you can see North America’s third tallest peak, Orizaba, but on the ground it’s all about coffee. Have you ever plucked a coffee “cherries” from the tree. Would you like to learn about growing, sun-drying, roasting, and brewing your some of the world’s best coffee where there is perfect weather (22-30C / 72-86F) year round?!
Sendero Travel has organized an amazing Pathways to Coffee / Senderos del Café one-day tour led by a extremely knowledgeable barista and great tour guide (yes, ask for tour in English). Just a half-hour from Xalapa, home of the Japapeño pepper and the capital of Veracruz, the tour lives up to the town’s nickname of "Pueblo Mágico". The tour investigates the well-known Bola del Oro plantation, so well-kept that they have wedding there. I learned so much. Did you know that a two-acre piece of land planted with coffee trees and including a small farmhouse can be bought for as little as US$150,000? Not only do you get an expert tasting session with barista Luis Jorge, expert roaster and owner of the Novo Café Bar, you get to review the amazing estates of the local coffee plantations with a knowledgeable guide. You finish the tour with refreshing lemonade and cakes at the amazing Hacienda de Pacho, where doyenne de historia y cultura, Marisa Moolik, will regale you with stories of the old days. The one-day tour begins at 9am and ends at 3pm. They pick you up from your hotel or you can meet at the Plaza in the town center. Price is MXN530 for AARP and kids and MXN630 (USD33) all inclusive.

La Aldea del Buen Vivir is an adventure park located in 15 minutes south of Xalapa, Veracruz. Due to the its vegetation activities such as zip-lines, hiking and horse back riding have incredible views of the famous Cloud Forest surrounding this area. We also offer quad bike rides inside the park and paintball. The camping zone is one of the greatest in the area.
