first of all please do replace the orangutan profile picture in trip advisory... they are not that scary even though they wild animal.
tips :
1. find the correct boat or klotok considering the budget, comfort and safety. This is very important. type of boat : AC room, full covered boat etc
2. Find the correct tour guide...look at the references and reviewer.
3. can fully staying at boat or you can stay at Hotel resort at river.
4. the tourist peak is between July to Sept.... you will have many tourist friend, avoid those period if you doesnt want crowd.
5.The Orangutan camp, conservation considering to limit the number of tourist. this action to respect the orang utan.
6. The famous local tour guide is the Orangutan tours owned by Mr. Jenie Subaru.
from North pole to South pole , Newyork to tanjungputing... the other places just in between of these 2 attraction..

While visiting Tanjung Puting NP, you will stop at Camp Leakey to observe orangutans feeding at a designated time of day. What makes this stop different from the others, is learning about the preservation efforts led by Dr. Birute Galdikas and her team of scientists, staff and park rangers since 1971. The visitors' center is a bit weathered, but the information and photos are very interesting and puts what you have and will be seeing into perspective. The palm oil industry is the biggest threat to this habitat. Who wins is yet to be determined. Go while you can.

About 30 km from Palangkaraya, the capital city of Central Borneo, there is a Carmelite Monastery. There live four Carmelite Nuns : Sr.Agnes, Sr.Josepha, Sr.Anastasia and Sr.Stefana.
What they do day by day are praying for people. We can leave our wishes with them to pray.
They live in a quite good and clean place. In this area, there is a church, some rooms for meditation and a hill with 14 Stations of The Cross statues plus 2 additional statues.
This place is open for public, but specially for meditation and praying purposes.
There is no room service and no admission fee, but it's better to give donation for their lives.

I felt stand on the history of my country, Indonesia. Ir. Soekarno is one of the important person to declare the Indonesian Independency. He is a thechnocrate, birocrate, nationalis, politician and really know about Indonesian Islands country. That is why he thought as important to put the Indonesian capital in Borneo. Now, this idea like reconstructed since Jakarta is really terrible and need wide space to be a connected capital town.

An icon of Palangkaraya city is Kahayan river. Talking about the river, we will also talking about the bridge. It's in one package :).
This bridge is prominent because it connects two sides of the city that is split by the river. Have a middle size with a quite nice shape. But according to other bridge in Indonesian towns, this bridge is not too special.
If you are in Palangkaraya and want to enjoy seeing this bridge, please go to a small harbor near the bridge (enter from Sukarno Monument). Start around 5 pm it becomes an outdoor cafe, so you can drinks and eats while you enjoy to see the bridge. I did it with my son this February. If you are lucky you can see the sunset and take photos of it with the bridge as a background. At the day I visited, I missed it because it was cloudy.
If you also take a river cruise, better you set the ending time of the cruise around 4 or 5 pm, so you can take a rest while waiting for the sunset here.

I've been to Sebangau a couple of times and I generally enjoy it. While the amount of wildlife sightings is not anywhere close to relatively nearby Tanjung Puting I still consider it worth a visit.
Cruising around the peat lands looking for snakes and birds is a great experienced. The basic daytrip also includes a hike in the peat-swam forest with a chance of spotting orangutangs. Last time when I went, we did not encounter anything but Orangutang nests, pitcher plants and bugs - but the hike is still quite nice. The trip to Sebangau is rather inexpensive and cost around 500k IDR per boat. A boat takes 3 people. But there's an extra charge for 150k IDR per foreigner due to government regulations.
If you are interested in looking for wildlife it could be smarter to try accessing the park from the eastern side (Kasongan/Katingan) as that's where the majority of the Proboscois Monkey and Orangutangs hang out. But Sebangau contain the worlds largest Orangutan population (estimated at 6k species) so its not unlikely that you might spot one, but its nothing like in Tanjung Puting where you will spot 20. Still, I think sebangau is a great place for nature lovers - and its proximity to Palangkaraya makes it a great daytrip. Its also possible to do overnight/trips and stay over in the rangers lodge in the middle of the peat swamp.
7. Kawasan Arboretum Nyaru Menteng

This Arboretum is a place to save the Orangutans, a typical Borneo chimpanzees. If the government found Illegal chimpanzees ownership, they seize them and put the chimpanzees here to reintroduce them to the jungle life.

If you are interested in learning more about Dayak-culture and Central Kalimantan the museum is worth a visit. Its inexpensive and there are a few interesting objects - like items associated with spiritual magic, crafts and weaveries. Worth to drop by if you have time to spare. The attraction could be improved with more variation in how it presents the objects and its contexts.
