Brimley State Park

We arrived at 8:30 in the evening--so it was late in the day and had the guide assign us a spot. We were shocked to see such a large park--they had a large flat grassy area with over 200 spots. It was off season so we could have had our choice, but we were tired of driving. It soon started to rain & it rained all night--I was thrilled to find in the morning our spot was mostly still dry & we were able to drive away with no problem.

Point Iroquois Light Station

Reviewed By Roger B - Grand Rapids, Michigan

We came across the Point Iroquois Light Station while traveling on the scenic road through the Hiawatha National Forest from south of Paradise, Michigan to Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. The Light Station is open to the public and offers some historically recreated rooms for visitors to view. They also allow visitors to climb the light tower. There is a wooden walkway down along the shore, with access points to allow you to get down to the bay and hunt for Lake Superior agates and other wave washed stones.

Wild Bluff Golf Course

The views are breathtaking and the course conditions and service are top-notch. With five sets of tees, you can play a course length that fits you best on this challenging 18-hole course. Practice on the world class double tee'd driving range, and two putting greens, and you will be ready to play the course that Michelle Wie chose for her first attempt at challenging the men. Golf carts with GPS are included when you play on Wild Bluff's wide fairways and large greens. When you finish, relax with great food and drinks in the Players Lounge before heading back to the casino.

Play here every year with a large group of friends. When we first started coming here years ago the coursecwas immaculate. Recently we have seen some changes. Some good...some bad. This year the course was not up to par. Lol. The biggest issue was the rough. There was no first cut of rough then the rough. If you missed the fairway by inches, you may have either lost your ball, spent minutes looking for it, or if found, trying your best to hack it out. As an amateur, this slows down play and does not make for an enjoyable round. Some of the tee decks need work as well. Some have been updated which is good but more needs to be done. The best thing was a little friendly fox on 10 tee off who came out every day to meet us.

Whitefish Bay National Forest Scenic Byway

This is a pretty road with pretty trees. Occasionally, you will get a view of Lake Superior. My husband never - I repeat never - tells the grandkids to do anything they won't like. He and I have been on a lot of scenic highways and sort of had high expectations. So....we start on this scenic byway and he tells the two thirteen year olds to put away their phones and look out the window. Trees, trees, trees, trees, glimpse of water, trees, trees, trees. If you're in the area, sure, drive down the road, otherwise, don't go out of your way.

Pendills Creek National Fish Hatchery

Visitors are encouraged to view the Visitor Lobby in the main hatchery building and walk through the fish production building located at the facility. You may see lake trout eggs, fry, fingerlings, yearlings, or display brood fish. Public beach access to Lake Superior is across the road from the hatchery. A pavilion and picnic tables are available to use, as well as a boardwalk down to the lake.

A very interesting hatchery in the uper peninsula of Michigan that deals with trouts that are breeded and brought back to the lakes. The guide there was fantastic and took us around. There are visiting hours for tourists so check it in advance. Recomanded to all the family.

When you arrive at the hatchery a visitor’s parking lot will be to your left with an informational kiosk on our program. Depending on the time of year, you can see lake trout eggs, yearlings, and adult brood fish up to 20 pounds each. Due to current staffing levels and sensitivity of the fish being raised at the hatchery, we ask that visits and tours be arranged by appointment.
