Bracciano is a small town in the Italian region of Lazio, 30 kilometres (19 miles) northwest of Rome. The town is famous for its volcanic lake (Lago di Bracciano or "Sabatino", the eighth largest lake in Italy) and for a particularly well-preserved medieval castle Castello Orsini-Odescalchi. The lake is widely used for sailing and is popular with tourists; the castle has hosted a number of events, especially weddings of actors and singers.

The Castello di Bracciano - a stone's throw from Rome - is one of the most impressive Castles in Italy, Europe and the world. Completed in 1485 by the Orsini family, around an existing 12th century Vico fortress, it is one of the few renaissance Castles in Italy that - thanks to the Odescalchi family - is open to the public. It also plays host to numerous weddings, galas and important cultural events throughout the year.

The castle has changed over the centuries (some original walls are still visible) with changes to particular time period and taste and has been restored (more recently?) without losing it's original character. Priceless furniture and paintings, All very well kept up. We've seen many Castles in Europe, this is one of the most authentic and "liveable" Castles. Used as museum and for functions but does absolutely not look commercial. Very impressive visit. Saw reviews complaining about the 8euro entrance fee, those people had no clue what they were visiting or how much money it takes for a family (still owned by Princessa Odescalchi) to maintain a gem like this. Views from the top are spectacular and great restaurants on the piazza below.

Attended a wedding at the Castle. 'Wow', what a setting to get married in. The event was out of this world with its views over the lake. Reception in the garden and evening meal in the courtyard. Well worth a visit. Tom Cruise was married here.

The ruins are definitely the big attraction of the area, however the reserve itself should be given the attention it deserves, there is excellent walking to be had amongst the many trails, visiting creeks and etruscan tombs along the way. we saw nobody in the time we were there.

This nice unspoilt beach, so quiite, serene, an unspoilt taste, naturalness, I like it very much; it seems, that the most people preferes to go to the beach on the sea and not to a silence lake, but it's also very nice; there are also sunbeds, little boats; not much people.

Located in the old town next to the castle, stands this grand church/cathedral that would be better at home in a bigger more open square. What we see today was completed in the 1600's, however the the original structure was built around 1200. The steps up to the structure add to the grandeur of the building. The interior is big and grandiose, however, seems to be a bit neglected, with damp and paint peeling. All and all worth a visit when in the area.

We could not find them? We were in the area but no where could we find any sign to them. The road is very narrow and rough and there are several private properties. Was it us or was it our navigational equipment? It was marked but we could not see access.

Un salto spettacolare del fosso della Mola, in un ambiente selvaggio (chiamato anche l'Amazzonia dell'Alto Lazio) e dalle formazioni laviche molto caratteristiche: qui, oltre agli onnipresenti tufi che caratterizzano il territorio a nord di Roma fino al confine con la Toscana, spesseggiano colate laviche di tipo basaltico con aspetto anche colonnare. Ma non c'è solo questa cascata da ammirare (detta anche cascata superiore), in quanto il sentiero vi permette di ammirare anche la cascata inferiore (detta anche del Braccio di mare) sicuramente molto meno alta ma che si getta in uno specchio d'acqua grande quasi come un piccolo laghetto (tanto che si vede anche da google maps); ma prima di giungere alla cascata inferiore, una piccola deviazione dal sentiero principale vi porta alla cascata dell'Ospedaletto, alta quasi come la cascata superiore, anche se la portata d'acqua è molto minore, essendo formata da un più modesto corso d'acqua che confluisce poi sul fosso della Mola, nel tratto tra la cascata superiore e quella inferiore.
Per arrivare alla cascata di Castel Giuliano bisogna arrivare in questa frazione di Bracciano e parcheggiare l'auto nel grande piazzale (dov'è l'unica chiesa della frazione); prendete quindi la carrareccia a sx che scende verso il basso e che porta l'indicazione dell'agriturismo Monte La Guardia (vi è comunque un cartello posticcio che indica anche la cascata); ad un certo punto la strada, dopo essere scesa, arriva ad un bivio dove a dx sale verso l'Agriturismo e dritto davanti a voi continua a scendere: a questo punto dovete ignorare l'indicazione dell'agriturismo e continuare a scendere verso il fosso; ad un certo punto il sentiero si livella e costeggia una recinzione con il fosso alla vs/ dx e dei pascoli a sx: continuate fino ad arrivare ai ruderi di un vecchio ponte: qui vi trovate proprio sopra la cascata di Castel Giuliano; il sentiero prosegue sulla sx del salto e vi porta, scendendo, al livello del fosso, dove risalendo quest'ultimo giungerete ai piedi della grande cascata. A sx della cascata, se fate attenzione individuerete un paio si sentieri, entrambi facilmente percorribili, che si arrampicano sul costone e vi portano dietro alla cascata, senza che vi bagnate.
L'itinerario per la cascata di Castel Giuliano è abbastanza intuitivo (basta seguire idealmente il fosso) ed in ogni caso troverete ogni tanto anche qualche cartello. Nessuna difficoltà fino ai ruderi del ponte, mentre un po' di attenzione per scendere alla base della cascata, specie dopo le piogge.
Per giungere alla cascata dell'Ospedaletto basta seguire il fosso della Mola fino ad incrociare a sx un altro corso d'acqua che risalendolo per un breve tratto vi porta alla base della cascata. Per giungere alla 3° cascata l'itinerario è più difficile, spesso il sentiero sembra perdersi o sarete costretti a passare sopra i muretti a protezione di alcune condutture. Anche qui vale la regola di cercare di seguire, per quanto possibile, la direzione in cui scorre il fosso. Peraltro, anche se riuscite a seguire il sentiero giusto (che costeggia il fosso alla sua sx), ad un certo punto lo troverete sbarrato da un'enorme frana, dovrete quindi aggirarla guadando il fosso per recarvi sulla sponda dx e, una volta oltrepassata la frana, riguadagnare il sentiero a sx del fosso riguadandolo nuovamente (nella ns/ escursione non abbiamo avuto molti problemi perchè eravamo equipaggiati con gli stivali); anche qui la discesa al laghetto formato dalla cascata richiede un minimo di attenzione.
Teoricamente il sentiero non finisce con questa cascata, ma prosegue fino a giungere a Cerveteri permettendovi di ammirare almeno altre 2 belle cascate: quella dell'Arenile e quella del Moro (conosciuta anche come Cascata del Vaccinello). Per motivi di tempo noi siamo però tornati indietro per cui non vi so dare indicazioni ulteriori; le altre cascate citate le abbiamo visitate in una successiva escursione ma stavolta siamo partiti da Cerveteri: per dettagli su tali cascate e sull'itinerario che abbiamo seguito vi rimando alla mia recensione specifica (su Trip l'attrazione la trovate su Cerveteri con il nome "Cascatelle").
