The lungs of the area, offering broad sweep views, cosy wooded walks, cultivated Gardens, breathtaking sunrises, mist laden lakes, fish filled streams, child friendly water play and equipment areas, the old stables now pub/restaurant, a mellow stoned manor house with tea rooms, a dog friendly refreshment area, tennis, bowls and the ever changing glories of the seasons in scent, bud, mulch, moist and blossom. A perfect delight.

First impressions count and they weren't very good. We telephoned ahead to get on a Sunday tour but nobody answered even after 11am. Transpired that there were no tours because it was a Santa weekend. Fine, but it wouldn't have hurt to mention this on the website or a voicemail message.
Anyway we went into the house to be greeted by nobody . First room was a pop up shop with a volunteer complaining about the cold. Fair enough, it was cold but not s great start. However a volunteer rescued us and suggested we visit the drawing room upstairs before Santa moved in. Good suggestion as this is the most interesting room with a wall painting representing Morris's marriage.
It would have been helpful if we had been directed downstairs to the room with information boards but we did the remaining 2 upstairs rooms before the dining room and other room downstairs.
The garden in late November didn't offer much of interest - no complaints here, and the second hand bookshop was ok. We disappeared at this stage to get lunch elsewhere as the cafe had only soup, sausage rolls and sandwiches.
It seemed up me there was a shortage of knoledgesble volunteers, perhaps because of the Santa event, which would have helped to explain more about Morris and what life was like in those 5 years they lived here. Perhaps the trust should think about reducing the admission price in winter because there isn't that much for the average visitor to see.

Danson House (Bexley Register Office)

INTRODUCTION Set overlooking the award winning Danson Park, this beautiful Grade I listed Palladian villa was officially re-opened by HM Queen Elizabeth II in July 2005. Built by Sir John Boyd in 1766 for his second wife Catherine Chapone, Danson House was originally designed by architect Sir Robert Taylor (who was also the architect of the Bank of England). In the twentieth century the house fell into an almost ruinous state. In 1995 English Heritage identified the house as 'the most significant building at risk in London', signalling the start of a decade of restoration. In 2005 the restored interior opened to the public for the first time in thirty years. A really great workshop, so much made. The time went so quickly as we all were really enjoying the day. Superb chocolate and great taste. Magdalena was a fantastic teacher, clearly she loves teaching and her product. Everything was explained clearly and really well. I will do another course with Cocoa and Heart. Brilliant!
Did the day with one of my sisters, but the others in the group were really friendly too.

Had a spa day with my wife here to celebrate wedding anniversary. Staff all round were great and stopped at nothing to make this a visit that exeeded expectations. Special mention to Megan who provided a great extra firm full massage, was very professional and made me feel relaxed and at ease throughout the whole process.
Spa day was a relaxing experience, with Jacuzzi, steam room and sauna all in good working order, as was the pool. The swimming instructors voice, who was there practically all day, shouting swimming instructions, was rather annoying when trying to relax at poolside. Even though I have absolutely no desire to swim beautifully, I reluctantly have all the theory on how to do this, swimming around in my head for sometime sadly, and so that part of the relaxation was a bit of an irritant.
We had the the champagne afternoon tea, which was sublimely delicious. Our server very thoughtfully gave us the option to move away from the Hen and Babyshower events taking place in the restaurant, to the bar which we gladly accepted. For the inconvenience, we were given an extra glass of champagne on the house. All great so far, until bill arrived. My wife was told that the price was £23.50 for two people for our champagne afternoon tea, it wasn't, it was £23.50 per person. Because of that, and so as not to spoil the day and get stressed out, we paid this witjout arguement. It was good bye payment of service charge from that point onwards. I have to apologise to our server for this, as she was truely wonderful, and deserved service charge payment, but we were clearly misinformed about this offer.
My wife a had a great massage and facial too which was great and parking was free and closeby. Lockers only take old £1 coins, so if you don't have one, ask at reception for replacement token to use locker. One other thing I noticed, was there was no lifeguard there which is a worry.
Would I return here? Possibly but I do know places that do this better and with more staff resources, so as to reduce wait times in Spa and restaurant areas. Staff shouldn't have to perform miracles just to keep their jobs, yet they appear to be able to do this, and I commend them highly, because I could not.
