Amecameca (formally Amecameca de Juárez) is a town and municipality located in the eastern panhandle of Mexico State between Mexico City and the Iztaccíhuatl and Popocatépetl volcanos of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. It is located on federal highway 115 which leads to Cuautla, which is called the Volcano Route (Ruta de los Volcanes). This area is popular with weekend visitors from Mexico City, Puebla and Morelos to enjoy the scenery of the mountains, eat local foods, visit the Sanctuary of the Señor del Sacromonte, the Panoaya Hacienda and other attractions. However, when Popocatépetl is active, tourism here drops dramatically. The area receives a large number of visitors during the annual Carnival/Festival del Señor del Sacromonte, which extends over the week containing Ash Wednesday and is considered to be one of the most important festivals in Mexico State.

Paso de Cortes or the Iztaccihuatl-Popocatepetl National Park is great for a few hours hike in nature and even better when it's cloud free when you can get great views. To my knowledge I believe you may need a permit to hike on certain trails (I'm not sure which ones).
Iztaccihuatl is an extinct volcano so it is possible to climb it though it may require having to spend the night in a nearby refugio first.
Popocatepetl is an active volcano and is forbidden to approach it due to it's high level of activity. It tends to explode without warning and if you happen to be on the slopes then you're likely to be in range of the bombs the volcano throws out!
You might be lucky to spot an animal or two in the national park and if the volcano is not covered in clouds, you might be lucky to witness an eruption!

This is an historical place as was the grounds where Sor Juana Ines de La Cruz Lived. You have the chance to visit a small but well preserved museum of this great writer on LatinAmerica (and an icon of Feminism worldwide). The place is well kept, it has a small pond, an english Laberynth, camping facilities and a little farm where kids can pet goats, llama and a Capibara. The place is good and well preserved, fee to enter is around 12 USD, there is an Hotel there and a restaurant, bad thing is the price for the food and acommodations. Good sightseeing and camping can be done there. Staff was always very supportive.

It is a place where it will take you at least 3 hours, depending of your preferences and activities where you can:
- Feed the animals (deers, goats, llamas, cows, camels) and pet little pigs, bunnies and cats!
- Pedal little boats
- "Foam party" (for kids)
- Zipline (for kids too!)
- Ride on a horse
And one of the shows you have to attend, the wild animal show where you can see:
- Snakes (safe ones, not poisonous)
- Eagles
- Wolfs (safe)
- Wild cats
You can even have a photo of you petting a wild cat (every year is different, we had photo with baby lion, tiger and a leopard)
Has parking lot.
The downsize is that not all personal working there are so clever, you know what I mean.

El lugar es lindo (reconstruido) del Antigua casa donde Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz vivio su niñez. Muy cuidada y con detalles lindos, lo mejor es entrar con visita guiada, así te van explicando y dando detalles que tal vez muchos no conocemos.
Yo ingresé como parte del brazalete dorado al entrar al parque de los venados acariciables, pero vale la pena.
Las vistas del popo e izta son hermosas y mucho mucho terreno para caminar y estar un rato agradable.

Den Vulkan Popocatépetl zu besuchen, welcher unter rotem Alarm steht, ist ein einmaliges Spektakel, welches ich mir nicht entgehen lassen möchte.
Verblüfft betrachte ich von der Terrasse meines Hotels, wie das Monster Lava und Feuer spuckt. Es erscheint mir unglaublich, dass die Menschen hier diese Gefahr als normale Bedrohung anschauen und sich nicht fürchten. Nachts scheint die Stadt ruhig zu sein und zu ruhen. Die Menschen schlafen und nur der Sicherheitsdienst mit den Bulldozern, versucht die Gräben im Berg an den Flanken des Berges auszubauen um zu verhindern, dass die Lava Richtung Stadt fliesst. Wenn die Menschen hier keine Angst haben, warum sollte ich Angst haben, denke ich und schlafe ein.
Nicht weniger angenehm um nicht ekstatisch zu sagen erscheint es mir, am nächsten Tag, die Kolonialstadt von meiner Aussichtsplattform, von ebendiesem Berg aus zu betrachten. Mit wenig Fantasie erscheint es mir leicht, mich zurück ins siebzehnte Jahrhundert zurück zu versetzen, denn die unzähligen monumentalen Bauten und Kirchen erleichtert einem die Zeitreise. Es wird behauptet, dass es in Puebla dreihundertsechzig Tempel hat die Kathedralen gleichen. Von hier aus kann ich alleine fünfundvierzig zählen.
Es kostet mir viel zu verstehen, wie unsere heilige Kirche eine solche Monumentalität fördern konnte. Absolut übertrieben und exorbitant. Sicherlich war es dienlich, die Arbeiter aus der einheimischen Bevölkerung, welche sie versklavt hatten dazu zu zwingen. Anderseits aber auch beigetragen durch das viele Gold, dass ihnen die Einheimischen bringen mussten. Schliesslich besänftige ich mich damit, dass dieses grosse monumentale Erbe heute wenigstens der Tourismusindustrie dieses Landes hilft, dank der vielen Familien leben können.

It is undergoing repairs from the recent earthquakes and large portions are inaccessible. A large tent is in front where services and school are held. What we could see whetted our appetite for more.

"Among us"...Toda la familia teníamos muchas ganas de poder ya estar en este fabuloso huerto orgánico, el cual es sembrado , regado con los productos más naturales, nada de germicidas y otros productos que dañan cuando se presenta algún tipo de plaga.
Es un espacio de aproximadamente 500 metros cuadrados, dividido en varias zonas , dependiendo del tipo de planta que se está cosechando, podrás admirar desde todas partes la forma en como riegan y mantienen todo en perfecto orden.
Encontrarás cilantro, perejil, arugula, lechuga, coles, zanahoria, rábanos, epazote, y muchísimas más en tamaños y colores variados. Es muy buena experiencia que tu y tu familia conozcan ya que muchas veces no tenemos el cuidado o hábito de comer verduras. Todos al final del recorrido entramos a un pequeño invernadero en donde podrás llevarte plantas medicinales y comestibles a muy buenos precios. Y te darán una semilla, para que conozcas el proceso completo. Desde tomar tierra en un pequeño recipiente poner la semilla a 2 cm por debajo del borde de la tierra y agua. Hoy en día nuestras plantas han crecido unos 7 u 8 cm....una maravilla y buena experiencia natural.
