The 9 Best Things to do for Honeymoon in Swakopmund, Erongo Region

April 23, 2022 Toi Mattera

Namibia's largest coastal town is a huge draw for merrymakers and vacationers from all over the globe. This seaside resort showcases its German origins in its European-style colonial architecture, creating a jarring juxtaposition against the landscape of the Namib desert. Sandboard or motorbike the dunes, dine and imbibe in a picturesque restaurant on the waterfront, or just marvel at the unusual birds and plants that populate the region.

For the past 10 years, my family and I have travelled many times to Southern Africa (specially to Namibia) and in 2013, after reading all the good reviews about Discover Namibia Tours and Safaris, we decided to book our trip to Namibia with them. We were very impressed with their excellent service and since then, we’ve always done our safaris with Discover Namibia. Communication is excellent and all emails are promptly answered by Gemma and her team. Any doubts and questions are answered and Gemma’s and Romy’s recommendations have always been ideal for us. Apart from being great professionals and knowing Namibia and the rest of Southern Africa inside out, Discover Namibia, in my opinion, have the best prices and go out of their way to make sure the trips and safaris are absolutely perfect! I also like the way they present their itineraries and quotes, everything is clearly laid out and you get a detailed price breakdown. Here’s a list of all the safaris we done with Discover Namibia: July 2013 - 15 day self-drive Family trip: Windhoek, Etosha, Damaraland, Walvis Bay and Sossusvlei. It was a wonderful trip (my daughter’s first time in Namibia and she loved it) July 2014 - 18 day self-drive Family trip: Windhoek, Grootfontein, Caprivi strip (Bwabwata-Mahango and Mudumu National Parks) Chobe National Park in Botswana and Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. An incredible trip and I hope to do that itinerary again. November 2016 - 12 day fly-in and self-drive photography safari with friends: Windhoek, Sossusvlei, Damaraland and Etosha. Another amazing trip with fantastic wildlife sightings! For Xmas 2017-18, we did a 15 day self-drive family safari: Windhoek, Sossusvlei, Namib-Naukluft, East Etosha, Hobatere and West Etosha. It was a beautiful trip, such a different Xmas for us and like all our previous trips with Discover Namibia, everything was perfect. My most recent trip to Namibia was just a month ago, I went with some friends from the 12th to the 24th of February. It was their first time in Africa and Gemma organised an amazing self-drive safari for us, including a 2 day visit to the San Bushmen. We had a fantastic time and my friends loved the trip and are now addicted to Namibia too!! Thank you Gemma for organising all these very special safaris for us (and I’m already thinking about another trip!)

Desert Explorers

This is a fantastic way to see the Swakopmund dunes, combining fun and plenty of excitement as well as beautiful scenic views. We are a family of four with teens who all have limited to no experience on quads, but were safety briefed and taught how to ride the terrain with no problem at all. The sand dune body boarding was great fun and the dunes themselves are fantastic for the quad experience. Overall a must do for thrill seekers and fun loving people alike.

Swakopmund Jetty

Reviewed By nickv228 - Windhoek, Namibia

In my youth the Jetty was a popular place for fishing and making out. Sadly fishing, as most other fun activities in the Dorob park, are Verboten :( During my life it was rebuilt twice and the maintence at the moment is supposedly funded by the restaurant at the head. The restaurant is for people with small appetites and cavernous wallets ;) The restaurant is also not open every day for lunch, as i recently found out. This landmark is a must visit. To stroll up to the head and back clears the mind. Sunsets are stunning.

Swakopmund Camel Farm

Reviewed By cowenevett - Carefree, United States

I had written ahead and booked our ride. When we arrived, a little unsure if we were in the right place, since the government had removed all the road signs, Elke assured us that we were. Elke, the owner was so much fun to talk to and we enjoyed seeing what other animals she had on the farm. The headgear she dresses you up in adds to the experience, making it all a little more fun than the commercialized camel rides they have in town. The ride isn't long, but long enough to get the feel and make it memorable. Will definitely return and would love to take Elke to lunch to hear more about her life and history in Namibia, she made the camel ride and opportunity to chat with her a very special stop during our trip. I hope people take the time to drive a short distance from the town center and support her and her camels, she is a small local business worth supporting.
