Chiesa di Santa Maria della Rocca

Reviewed By Aussies11 - Montelparo, Italy

We revisited Offida to see this church as one of us had seen a documentary on television. This imposing church on the edge of the town survived the many mines placed during WW2, making many faithful believe it was a miracle. The vast interior is beautifully simple with its plain stone walls. The entrance is at the crypt then you go upstairs to the nave with more frescoes and a statue. It is only a 5 minute walk from the town hall and well worth seeing. The young man on the ticket desk was very informative and was kind enough to leave the church open for extra time.

We were lucky to have stopped here for a fe hours when traveling along the Adriatic coast. The village is nicely preserved, with wonderful views and a great historic atmosphere. Plan at least an hour to explore the alleys and viewpoints (including the castle‘s ruins).

Lungomare San Benedetto del Tronto

Reviewed By lizcoppola

In the under-rated and little known seaside resort town of San Benedetto del Tronto, is a magnificent seaside promenade that stretches several kilometers from a very smart dock with yacht club and various cafes, and some public art work to the neighbouring town of Porto d'Ascoli. It runs along a beach that is lined with well-serviced facilities including some excellent restaurants, cafes, private cabins and lounge chairs with umbrellas. A few free beaches equiped with free showers intersperse the beach establishments that charge for their services. This pedestrian promenade is paved in attractive patterns and broken up by beautifully landscaped patches of green and fountains. Most striking are the parallel rows of palm trees some of which have been planted just a few years ago to replace those devastated by an invasion of weevils. This promenade is lit up at night to striking effect and is spotlessly clean. No litter in sight and all the gardens were clearly well cared for. I would highly recommend a visit to this little known gem on the Adriatic coast of Italy.

Piazza Arringo

Reviewed By Houlihan2 - Melbourne, Australia

This large, open Piazza owes its name to the “arringhe” (speeches) which took place here during public assemblies. During ancient times, there was a large elm tree in the center of the square, which has now been replaced by lovely tins travertine stone fountains with sea horses, fish and gargoyles in bronze sculptures by Giorgio Paci. The Piazza houses the Duomo, the Baptistry, the City Hall and the Palazzo Panichi.
