The 9 Best Sports Complexes in Auckland, North Island

September 11, 2021 Lashaunda Abraham

The Māori call Auckland Tāmaki Makaurau — a maiden desired by 100 lovers, and a valuable territory fought over for centuries for its fertile land and natural harbors on the Pacific Ocean (to the east) and Tasman Sea (to the west). Today, it’s New Zealand’s largest city: A vibrant and diverse place where nature and urban life go hand-in- hand, with 48 volcanic cones, more than 50 islands, and 29,000 km of coastline and beaches just minutes away from the arts and shopping of the central city.

I've skated at a lot of ice rinks around the world and this was a basic ice rink. The ice condition was good. I wasn't able to make it to a "freestyle" session (if you're a skater, you'll know what that is) because there weren't very many times available and I was only in town for one day. So, instead, I went to a public session. The beginning was great... lots of room, nice ice conditions, cold rink, but not bad. About 30 to 40 minutes into the session, lots of teenagers and other kids got on the ice with the "helper" boxes and were running around playing tag with them. They didn't need "help" skating. The management didn't do anything about this safety hazard.

What a lovely little Auckland pool, very sunny and warm water, loved the areas and options it had. It was great as kids are free, so very inexpensive. Would definitely go again.

We just loved this salt water pool. We were there for lane swimming. It is 60m long, nice and deep (must be about 2m deep) and the water felt amazing - crisp and clear! I am now looking forward to going back to Auckland to have another swim here.
