The 9 Best Museums in Trinidad and Tobago, Trinidad and Tobago

January 15, 2022 Layne Dawes

This tiny twin island republic offers an enticing mix of cultural activities and eco adventure. Located just off the tip of Venezuela, lively Trinidad, the larger of the two, boasts energetic nightlife in modern capital Port-of-Spain. Driving on the North Coast Road reveals lush forest and breathtaking views. Tobago, two hours away by fast ferry, is comparatively serene. Azure seas contrast with pale pink sands and golden sunsets. Protected rainforest and stunning coral reefs complete this paradise.

Genesis Nature Park beautifully captures the spirit and history of the island. We were given a tour by the owner and was able to feed and pet some of the animals (but not the caiman for obvious reasons). We enjoyed our visit, thank you.

Kimme Museum

Reviewed By KTandPD

Was privileged to visit Luise Kimme in this, her former home, before she died. An incredible person - dynamic, welcoming, energetic and quite unique! She spoke of her worry about what would happen to her work after she died so I’m thrilled to find this listing. Was a remarkable place and her sculptures are amazing - incredibly impressive.

Hummingbird Gallery

Reviewed By janehX6152WL

If you are visiting Tobago, try to find time to visit this very unassuming residential garden owned by Mr George. His hillside garden is full of nectar feeders attracting all the species of hummingbirds in huge numbers, plus other birds besides. Mr George is really knowledgable and also runs rainforest walks. There is an honesty box for a small donation towards bird food. Completely charming!

The Art Gallery

Reviewed By CliveR101 - Wellingborough, United Kingdom

The only art gallery on the island, although there are also some pieces on display at the nearby Magdelina Grand hotel. The gallery is relatively easy to find (we used a navigation app called Waze which got us from A to B relatively easily. It is a small gallery, but well worth a visit if you would like a memento of your stay in the firm of artwork by local artists. Very important, if you arrive and the place appears to be closed, ring the bell!. Essentially the set up gallery at the front of the building and working space to the rear, so be patient. Martin was an atttentive and knowledge host who made us feel very comfortable, we purchased a few items on the day. Regarding price, value for money is subjective and so no comment other than I am happy with the transaction. Well worth a visit whilst in Tobago.
