Our room smelt of dog and had very dirty carpets. The connecting door to the room next door wasn't soundproofed so we could hear every sound from that occupant. We returned one evening at about 9:30 to find the bar and public areas had already closed. The staff were friendly and helpful and the location is good. The breakfasts were the only highlight of the stay. We would not book again.

The Old Railway Station

Widely acclaimed as Britain's most beautiful railway station, Petworth's former train station is now one of the country's most unusual destination hotels. Step back in time and enjoy a romantic and unique break in one of our restored Pullman railway carriages or stay in the old Station House. In summer, enjoy our fine breakfast on the platform, overlooking our exotic garden or, in winter, by a roaring fire in our former Waiting Room, with its 20ft vaulted ceiling. The Old Railway Station has something for every discerning traveller, looking for something different.

Great Fun & Cool Place

Really great place to stay, they have managed to cram quite allot into half a railway carriage. A bath and shower in the bathroom which I was amazed at, really nostalgic and quite wonderful. Stayed here one night as our friends were getting married close by, can fully recommend.

Lovely pub Lovely staff

Reviewed By CharRyves

We have been to this pub twice. First time was just after lockdown was easing and we could only eat outside and at the weekend just gone. Staff are so lovely and the team behind the bar made a real effort with our son and made great Bloody Mary. Food is delicious, those deviled kidneys are amazing! Homemade freshly cooked bread was delicious. Portions are a good size and I had to take mine home in a takeaway box. It was well worth the drive for us and we will be back again soon. Thank you for your hospitality.

The Angel Inn

A recently refurbished market town inn with rooms, serving reasonably priced very good food and drinks. All dishes are made on the premises using the best ingredients. It has seven letting bedrooms all en-suite with baths or showers as well as an adjacent 3 bedroom self catering house. There is a beautiful beer garden out at the back of the premises. The small car park is just across the road.

Dreadful Meal

Reviewed By marie claire d

We went last night and it was just awful. We ordered two glasses of Nyetimber which took an age to arrive when they did one was flat and the other fizzy. I asked the waiter to replace the flat one and he returned with a glass of prosecco instead (Nyetimber is £12 a glass). I asked him if we could have Nyetimber and that took another 15mins to arrive. The food was revolting, dry and inedible pheasant starter, cold fish cake and warm white wine. The waiters had no idea what they were doing and kept on asking us if everything was OK, when we said it wasn't they simply said 'OK guys sorry about that' but made no attempt to rectify any of the issues. To add insult to injury the bill for 2 was £120!! Really disappointing.

Badgers B&B

The Badgers pub is situated just outside the historic market town of Petworth. It is set in the heart of the beautiful West Sussex countryside and nestled close under the South Downs. Badgers is a privately owned free house with accommodation. Badgers is run by Jules Arlette, the proprietor, along with her hard working and friendly staff. As well as a fine restaurant, there are three double rooms for those wishing to stay.

Disappointing wait for food

Reviewed By Susan K

We had a lovely cream tea at Petworth station and stayed the night in Pullman carriage. Fantastic. We went to the Badger Pub for dinner. It's a lovely Pub and staff very polite. I didn't have a starter but my Husband did. Unfortunately he had to wait an hour for his starter. The reason we were given was they were very busy! It was potted shrimp and a slice of toast. I've put terrible for the service although as i say the staff were polite enough but we had quite a wait for the mains although not an hour. Also average for overall rating as it is alovely pub.

The Stonemasons Inn

A traditional and beautiful 17th century Inn, nestling on the edge of the South Downs national park and opposite Petworth House, provides the perfect place to stop for high quality locally sourced food, a renowned range of real ales and lovely accommodation facilities. Children and dog-friendly and fully accessible, we look forward to welcoming new and old friends alike.

A bit underwhelmed!

Reviewed By 870libbym

A very welcoming pub but a little down at heel. We stayed for a night here and were quite underwhelmed. The staff were friendly but the accommodation requires a great deal of upgrading. It is all very dated and needs some real investment to bring the rooms up to a good standard. It’s a lovely old pub with heaps of potential but some way to go! The breakfast was reasonable. Cannot comment on other food as we did not eat there.

Highly recommend this B&B if you need one in the Petworth area. The hosts were welcoming, the rooms clean and fresh and the breakfast huge. What more do you want!? It is down a remote lane but therefore quiet

The Garden Cottage

Garden Cottage is a wonderful place to stay as it is in the centre of Petworth, with the National Trust Petworth House and Park just a 5 minute stroll away; with Arundel Castle, Goodwood House and Chichester Cathedral just 20 minutes drive away. Climping Beach is 5 minute drive beyond Arundel and we are on the National South Downs Way, surrounded by beautiful countryside in all directions. There are numerous antique shops, restaurants, a bank, pubs, boutiques, and "life style" shops in this small and ancient town (dating back to the Domesday book). Other highly recommended country pubs are within 5 minutes drive by car and most have gardens to sit in. Our local convenience store is a 2 minute walk away and open from 7am until 10pm for last-minute food shopping. The cottage is well equipped with wifi, freeview TV, Radio, hairdryer and bathrobes. For children and babies cots, highchairs, toys, potties and plastic table cloths can all be provided if required. There is a play park 3 minutes away for young children and acres of land to run in Petworth Park with trees to climb and deer to be watched from the top of the hill. Gatwick airport is a 45 minute drive and Heathrow airport is 1 hour 15 minutes away. Pulborough (West Sussex) train station for Gatwick airport and London Victoria is 8 minutes by taxi.

Our own little haven away from home.

As soon as we opened the gate we were so happy. The Garden Cottage was exactly what we had hoped for with everything we needed plus a few extra surprises left by the wonderful host Anita. Petworth is a great village with lots to offer and the cottage is perfectly positioned hidden in the middle of town. We had the best stay and after we left for more travels, decided to come back for a few more days at the end of our time in the UK. Thanks Anita for your amazing hospitality. Hope to visit you next time. Michele and Mark Melbourne, Australia
