The Puijo tower is an observation tower at the top of Puijo hill in Kuopio, Eastern Finland. Opened in 1963, the tower is 75 metres (246 ft) tall and has a revolving restaurant with 100 seats and a beutiful cafe. It was the first tower with a revolving restaurant in the Nordic countries. The current Puijo tower has been visited by over 5.5 million tourists. The current tower is the third overall. When it was completed in 1963 the second one, built in 1906, was dismantled. The first tower was built in 1856. On the western side of the tower there are three ski jumping hills.

We were lucky with the weather & the tower offered ridiculously good views in all directions. An added novelty was the views onto the ski jumps, allowing you to get an idea of what it must feel like to be about to set off down one. Took the steps with 9-yr old boys rather than the lift just for the adventure which was good for burning off some energy before filling them with doughnuts (overpriced, day old) at the top. (Brilliant views from the cafe too, with seating running around the 360-degree windows)

This cathedral is very grand and magnificent from the outside and very intimate from the inside. It reminds us of the coexistence of the Eastern and Western Christian traditions in Finland. Don't miss the church bells, art of one kind!
