September 25, 2021 Roger Rusk

Tamarindo is a prime spot for surfing and sportfishing, diving and sunning. Nesting leatherback turtles do their thing along the beaches from October to May and, for some nesting of your own, gorgeous beach houses, B&Bs and luxury hotels line the sunny sands. Shopping and dining options are superb and plentiful, perfect for sampling the true flavors of Costa Rica.

I actually went to two tours (also did Rio Tempisque) with Native's Way. Our guide Gustavo was friendly and very informative, telling us about the plants birds, and of course about the wonderful volcano fumaroles, mud puddles, etc. Gustavo was a good driver, and accommodated our need to have occasional bathroom or snack stops. One suggestion to Native Way would be to be a little more clear about what to bring along; we did not need a change of clothes after the hot spring dip, as there were changing room. I would definitely book again with these folks next time I vacation in Tamarindo.

We did this hike as part of a day tour to see Tenorino (sp) National Park. I expected this to be canned and cheesy. Boy did I get surprised! Our tour guide met a young Tica who walked us through the sanctuary. We saw numerous sloths including a baby and Mom that were low enough to get excellent video. I got some of my best Howler Monkey shots of our month long vacation here. We had an eyelash viper pointed out for us. But the highlights, I think, were the frogs. She located and pointed out the Red Eyed Tree Frog for us. It is one of Costa Rica's iconic animals. We would have missed it without her guidance. Additionally, she spotted the Mr. Blue Jeans frog that was so tiny from distance that we would have passed by, close up photos reveal and exquisitely colorful and beautiful animal. It was great! All the animals are free roaming and are held there by favorable habitat.
