Truly one of the best places to spend the sunrise! It's worth being awake by 3am, travel an hour, trek 30-40minutes up from the beach. Simply awesome and probably like the rolling hills of Batanes. Covered with grass, the multilevel hills open up to the heavens above, and the sea below. So breathtaking.
You have to have stable footing or careful steps. Travel light but dont you dare forget your camera. You could spend 2 hours in here. Or maybe more. You will need water and maybe a change of clothes (if you're sweaty like me) after. Absolutely not to be missed!

The facade which gives the historical appeal of the church has been preserved however, renovation is apparent inside. This structure is located in a highway and has a new view of the sea. A nice place to visit.

a must-visit site for visitors in Virac especially those who are planning to do Catanduanes Eastern part exploration. This can be your first stop-over sight on your way to Bato and Baras area where Puraran Beach and Balacay point are; these are the top-notch Tourist destination sites of Catanduanes. Coming from Virac, you may reach this site via tricycle ride in 20 minutes. Some tricycle drivers though will drop you off a few meters away from it's main entrance gate so you should be prepared to do some light trekking which will take around 5-10 minutes depending on your pace. Don't worry, the path is already concrete.

best time to go here is late in the afternoon where you can catch the perfect sunset. I just love to spend lazy afternoons here with my favorite book.

We were on a business and vacation trip to Catanduanes. I wanted to bring the kids to a place where they can get a sense of the history of the province aside from the stories they heard from their grandparents and aunts and uncles, so I brought them to the Museo de Catanduanes.
This place is a good source of information for Catanduanes history. Located within Virac town proper, it is easily accessible. A small museum, one can finish the tour within in an hour or two at the most.
Despite being on the smallish side, it has enough artifacts, maps, photographs and other historical collections that will give the first timer to Catanduanes (or the prodigal Catandunganon) a good snap-shot of provincial history.
I do wish that there were more artifacts and collections from other towns of the province. Many of the collections were donations from families in the province who have managed to preserve their family history through their heirlooms.
Overall, I recommend a stop to this museum for every visitor to the province.

I took a tricycle from Virac to reach Igang, which is only about 30minutes from the poblacion. People usually go to the Twin Rock Resort to enjoy the beach and the rock formations that surround it. The sea and the beach themselves are not really that spectacular compared with other places in Catanduanes, but they form a nice backdrop for picture-taking.

July 30, 2016. It was at the height of Signal #1 when we visited Nahulugan Falls in G(H)igmoto. It was an hour drive from Puraran. We traversed through several mountain ranges and into several coastal towns on the eastern side of Catanduanes. The last 15mins ride from the small town of Gigmoto and down to the rainforest became rough. It was at the end of the dirt road and after a small clearing that we heard and saw the gushing water of the falls. It was so naturally cool & refreshing.
Small flight of steps led us down to the waterway and up to the mother falls. We took a short dip but was cautious likewise for probable flash floods from the mountain.
There were several picnic huts, male & female restrooms with changing areas before the descent. The water taps however were not functioning. We had a good lunch while marveling at the beauty of the soft rainfall in the surrounding rainforest and the feel of cool crisp mountain air. Ideal for nature lovers.

Whether you believe in miraculous water of the Holy Cross or not, you must see it. Very historical and there is a story behind this water coming from the cross. Locals believe water from here can cure sickness. Must see to believe.
