Jose went above and beyond trying to explain to me any thing he could about the reserve. He took all the time because also i was the only costumer at that particular time: Sunday after Thanks Giving. He was telling me about the trees and animals we were encountering. He also seemed interested about where i was coming from and i think it was so cool !! CUando estabamos arriba en los arboles, el me tomo fotos y peliculas (con mi camara) de mi cuando yo rodaba de arbol a arbol. Ahora tengo muy bonitos recuerdos de mi paseo. Javier

The staff is super friendly,...MoreThank you very much for your opinion. On behalf of our team, and Dario, we thank you for choosing us. Santander Park

This was an amazing outing. You just become in awe at the size and scope of this roost.
Pictures don't do the experience justice....it's better in person than what you see in pictures here.
We liked it enough to go twice. Once with a view from the ground, within the park. Then a second time up the adjacent church tower.
I assumed that the church tower view would not be any better, but I was wrong. It was dizzying looking straight up at the sky, towards the East, as the birds 'dive bomb' down towards you in swarms, past the bell tower and into the park canopy. Then there's the sunset view!
And what a treat to do something like this without having to pay a tour company.

Isla de Los Micos

Reviewed By Joepure - Los Angeles, California

Isla de Los Micos - is a great opportunity to become inundated with young monkeys in a safe setting. Many of the observations by other visitors are accurate. It's not a "natural habitat" setting. The monkeys have been well-trained by their handlers to generous use of bananas so that the little creatures are attracted to the groups of strangers invading their midst.
Our experience was different - it was just 5 of us including our guide. The monkeys were fun and playful and (in Spanish) we were all talking to the handlers about how friendly the monkeys are but how easily conditioned to human visitors they become.
It's not too costly - it's an hour of your life and in a small group it's a much different and enjoyable experience.
PS: Where modern explorer gear as it is easier to clean after being pounced upon by 12 monkeys!

Catedral de Nuestra Senora de La Paz

This is not overrated. Viewing the mass roosting of parrots from this bell tower is something else.
We first watched the parrots one day from the ground in the park. Another day we tried it from the bell tower. Both worthy experiences, but the bell tower view is more breathtaking....for the view of the city, the sunset, and the parrot's roosting.
Remember to look up towards the sky, in the bell tower, towards the East. The view of the birds dive-bombing towards you, then past you into the park, is dizzying.
If you're in Leticia for a week like we were, it's worth coming to view this event more than once.
When watching this from the park, be prepared for the distinctive stench of parrot poop.
The viewing area at the top of the tower is not that big. so you may want to go around 5:00pm to secure a viewing spot (depending on what day of the week you go).

Museo Etnografico

In Leticia, at the point where Colombia meets Brazil and Peru, the Banco de la República Ethnographic Museum is key to understanding not only the present and past of Amazonas province, its capital, and the whole of the Amazon region, but also the nature and cultural diversity of this magic region. Renovated in 2015.

Reviewed By MarkWanders

The museum is split roughly into 3, a library (not of interest to tourists), an outdoor history trail around the right hand side of the building and a small but excellent collection of indigenous artefacts. Nothing to interest kids but if you're wandering round Leticia for the day it's worth popping in. The small display room isn't well signposted and may appear closed - just open the door and walk in. The air con in there is a shock. Also watch out for the dog that snoozes by the entrance in the daytime :)
