Although the Gardens are nice the palace itself is very small and really not worth the effort of visiting.

Altstadt Dachau

A nice place to visit after you do the dachau concentration camp since it is not very far by car. There is an information center by the palace. If you are driving, go inside the information office and ask if they can give you a parking ticket that you will be able to park for free for 90 minutes in one spot. There was plenty of parking spaces. The palace is closed and is replaced by a cafe instead but it was closed on Tuesday. We walked around the garden, went to the town center and the Rathaus (town hall) which was very modern inside) Some restaurants, shops and cafes you can stop before heading back. A few nice hours spent after a depressing morning.

Familienbad Dachau

We live close to Dachau and are regular visitors of the indoor swimming pool, especially during winter months. This year however I decided to try the outdoor one together with the family and we all were extremely positive surprised by the huge garden, the number and size of the pools and the offers with regards to other sport activities inside. There's a huge pool for smaller kids, which is only 80 cm deep and has two slides, fun for all kids, no matter small or big. The normal pool, Olympia size, is normally never full and you can always swim few lengths in peace, which is never the case in any of the popular outdoor locations in the city.
There are 3 tables for table tennis, 2 beach volleyball courts, one field for basketball and 2 for football - basically everything one needs to spend one whole day there. I have to say few nice words to the personal there and all the people working in the cafe and the small bistros inside- they are always helpful and nice and the service is pretty good, well above the average for Munich and the surroundings. You can good ice coffee and pancake for a fair price without having to wait for half an hour.
All this mention above for 2,50€ per person per day is really for free and I think we are going to be guests there very often.
One thing I would like to mention- there is a small problem with parking places- there are many, but as most of the people are coming by car, different compare to Munich city center, sometimes and especially on the weekend it is tough to get a free spot and you might need to search for a while or walk longer after parking on the street somewhere in the area. So either you come a bit earlier or by bike.
In any case - if you haven't tried this family outdoor pool you should, it is really really worthy.

Tried to,get into the museum but it was closed (Tuesday). It seemed like it had information about the palace but unfortunately we were not able to go inside. The outside front is planted with beautiful flowers. There is a path from this museum that will take you right to the palace which was also closed on Tuesday but you can view the Gardens. Nice little town to walk around.
