Going up the Gemeindealpe, directly at the middle station. Take your helmet and your cart and start the pure fun! Around 5km downwards to the basis station. A ride/race you will probably never forget. Take sunglasses or skiing.glasses with you, could help ;-)

Four of us went to this attraction. At first I thought it would be dull and uninteresting but how wrong I was. All of us really enjoyed it.
There are brakes so you can control how fast you descend so it is safe for youngsters. The sledges take two people so we frequently saw parent and child in a sledge.
The scenery was fantastic and there are nearby attractions for young children so there is plenty to do. It was a hot day so we were very appreciative of the small restaurant on site which sold ice creams.
Good fun for adults and children alike

This is a lovely little collection that is completely privately run and funded out of a love for animals. There are some nice species here including Snow Leopards, North Chinese Leopards and of course Camels! The enclosures are decent and the location is absolutely stunning. Having had the privilege of meeting the owner and his staff I came away with a good feeling of how much these people care for the animals. Although I am no fan of captive White Tiger breeding, the animals in the collection looked healthy and well looked after. The Camel show and the educational kids animatronic shows would entertain young kids whilst leaving them with a positive message.

Erlaufsee is a beautiful mountain lake at an elevation of nearly 900 metres. It is crystal clear, cold, ringed by forested Mountains and is a favoured holiday destination for many Austrians. Our Austrian friends took us there on an easy day trip from Vienna, and we enjoyed lazing in the sun with many hundreds of others followed by a very refreshing dip in the lake. The drive alone, is quite spectacular and if it is combined with a trip to the basilica in Mariazell, you have a complete and very satisfying day trip.

We made 3 trips to Mariazell in August and September and not once were we able to use the tickets we bought for 14.60 Euros -- $16.50 -- each on our first trip. This cable car does not run efficiently. It is a single car that goes up, discharges its passengers, and then comes back down to pick up new passengers every 22 minutes or so. And the car holds maybe 30 people. So if you have a train to catch or can only spend a few hours or half day in town, be sure to check the waiting time before you buy your tickets.
Bottom Line: It is very slow going to get to the top, and there is plenty to see and do in this pretty town, making it inadvisable on a short trip to spend so much time waiting in line to see this one sight, however appealing it might be. Plus, once on top, you might have trouble getting down when you need to do so, missing a train or a ride or having to forego something else you had in mind to do. So plan ahead: walk past the ticket windows to check the lines, then calculate how long you are likely to have to wait, and go from there. Good luck.

Neuerdings gibt es die Museumsbahn vom Bahnhof Mariazell Richtung Ortszentrum, sehr nette und informative Begrüßung durch den "Bahnbeamten", Zeitlupenfahrt Richtung Zentrum - ein Erlebnis!

Впервые попробовали и потом купили домой Мариацелльский пряничный ликер Pirker в Вене, у них есть фирменный магазин на Штефанплац. Почти через год случайно попали в Мариацелль, в воскресенье, очень переживали, что не будет работать фирменный магазинчик, но к счастью он работал! Рекомендую всем попробовать ликеры и пряники ручной работы. Самый вкусный ликер - Lebkuchen, со вкусом Рождественского пряника. Еще есть яичный и шоколадный ликеры, но пряничный - вне конкуренции! А деткам медовые пряники - большие с цукатами или маленькие ассорти!
