One of my familys favorite beach trips. Just a quiet, laid back family atmosphere. If you like to get away for the hustle and enjoy a peaceful family trip, Oak Island is highly recommended. So glad we gave it a try.

The Point

Great shelling and maritime views from this westernmost tip of Oak Island, where Lockwood Folly River on one side of the Point empties into the south-facing Atlantic on the other. Small public parking lot with access to short paths across the dunes lead to your choice of oceanfront or soundside adventure. Watch your the time, so you don’t get caught on the flats when the tide turns. We visited the Pointe in winter and didn’t swim: however, we learned currents here are strong as the two bodies of water intersect. Locals also tell us sunsets along the Point are breathtaking.
