It is 10 km (6 mi) north-north west of Montefiascone and 36 km (22 mi) north-west of Viterbo. First visit to Bolsena and we enjoyed every minute of our one week stay! Nice beach on the lakeshore, food and beverages all around at very decent prices. Hotels right on the boardwalk. Weather was fantastic in July. Festivities all week through. We went sailing on the lake, made two trips nearby (orvieto and bagnoregio) and went to the weekly market in bolsena. All great experiences and fun. Would recommend to anyone with kids, small and teens.

We spent one night here on our way from Benevento to Florence. Bolsena is a small town that offers swimming and boating on its huge lake in conjunction with its historic district and medieval fort.

Historic building that has many surprises inside ....we paid 5 euros for the "packet" that included visiting the upper walls that gave a great panorama, a visit to the archaeological museum of the territory and entrance to the aquarium.

This was a kind of a castle visiting tour where nobody bothers you and you can go and see whatever you like and do it as you like. There are many things you can touch even sit on some historical beds and chairs. Castle itself is quite nice no wonder it was used for many special events like weddings of celebrities etc. Don't miss great views of Bolsena lake from the castle walls. Best time to go there is a work day afternoon.
