Newport Lakes Reserve

Reviewed By 619jeffry - Essendon, Australia

Newport Lakes Reserve is a remnant of native bushland in the middle of Altona. It makes a very pleasant walk, and the lakes are very picturesque. It's a great place for a ramble. It's open from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm (9:00 pm in daylight saving time). The only practical approach by car is via Lakes Drive, running off Mason St. Parking is available. Visitors are requested not to feed the birds. A Ranger is on duty at all times. By the way, several signs say prominently "No Dogs" and "Watch Out for Snakes." It's a big park, paths can be followed by visitors, but the gate out at the top of the park is hard to find.

Paine Reserve is a nice area of ground with mature trees and a good-sized playground to keep the kids happy. If you want a picinic, the reserve has a table with benches. If you want a drink, the park has a water fountain. There are several more benches if you just want to take a break. and there's a garden of succulents . If you need a rest room, Paine Reserve abuts the Library at the Newport Commuunity Hub, which has several sets of toilets, including facilities for the disabled. As the Indian summer drags on, the grass has become a tad dry, but it will perk up when some rain arrives.

The Williamstown Wolves Baseball Club was established in 1908 and still plays ball on Greenwich Reserve. Visitors can watch the play. Greenwich Reserve abuts the Strand, which is one of the most expensive addresses in Melbourne. The Reserve has a playground and BBQ (and toilets). There's also a bicycle and walking path. The playground has a variety of equipment catering to diverse age groups. Greenwich Reserve is suitable location for family picnics. It comes to life as summer approaches.
