Meux Home Museum

This museum was once the home of a Civil War-era surgeon.

Reviewed By Robert_Avery_13 - Okinawa City, Japan

My first visit to the Meux Home was in 1964 when I was working and needed to speak with the residents. I was greeted by one of the original Meux Family Members and when I remarked on the beauty of her house, was given a private tour. I thanked Mrs Meux for her kindness. Following her passing, the city of Fresno in their obscene disire to tear down the old and build new, were pursuaded in keeping this home as an Historic Landmark which I cheered. The house fell into disrepair for several years and thanks again to a group who wanted to keep the Meux Home as an Historical part of Fresno, rehabilitated the house to it's original condition, they tried to get back most of the original furniture and did an excellant job of restoration. The house is open for tours and is at look at Frenso of the turn of the century. Great place to visit in Fresno as the shame Fresno has to bear is the destruction of the past with only a few reminders of how beautiful the city once was.

Fresno Art Museum

To support our community in the effort to slow the speed of the COVID-19 virus, the Fresno Art Museum is temporarily closed to the public. The Fresno Art Museum’s focus is on contemporary and modern art, photography, ethnographic, and cultural exhibitions that reflect and celebrate the diverse population of California's San Joaquin Valley. Most exhibitions change twice yearly and are curated in-house by Museum staff. The artists exhibited range from emerging and established local artists to artists from around the globe. Since 1988 FAM‘s Council of 100 annually recognizes a late-career, internationally-known woman artist with a Distinguished Woman Artist award and exhibition. FAM has a collection of Pre-Columbian artworks from Mexico and the Andes on permanent display and holds a permanent collection of over 3,500 works. PLEASE CHECK OUR WEBSITE FOR HOURS. We close for exhibition change-over every January and late June/early July, and occasionally close for special events.
