Duke Paoa Kahinu Mokoe Hulikohola Kahanamoku was quite a prolific man. A gold medalist swimmer, actor, police officer and probably the most important person in the history of surfing. The Makua and Kila statue is based on the children's story. Of all the statues in the area I am huge fan of the design of this one. It is so striking and carved with the water as if the figures of the surfer and the monk seal are moving.
