A nice place to visit

I had a two night stay here with family members. The location was great--a two mile straight shot from the hotel to the main shopping/restaurant area and the beach. It is across the street from the lake. There was an indoor pool which we did not use. The breakfast bar was well stocked and had some hot dishes as well as the usual items. The staff was friendly and helpful. I would stay here on a return trip to St. Joseph.

Not the room we reserved

Reviewed By 22juleeb

The hotel itself is pretty nice and clean. My kids liked the pool and the indoor/outdoor hottub. The fitness center was small but nicer than most hotel fitness center. The restaurant was OK and with very limited hours (but we were there in late March). We booked a family suite because we needed the separate bedroom, but ended up with an accessible suite and we were told that we couldn't switch rooms (which we requested as soon as we saw the bathroom). It had an accessible shower which was even with the bathroom floor so water got everywhere (we have kids, which is why we got the family suite). There was also no way to stand under the water the shower unless you were sitting in the shower chair. There was very little water pressure. We've stayed in campgrounds with nicer showers. There is one towel rack for a room that can fit 6 people. It sounds nit picky but lack of space to hang things up is one of my biggest issues with some hotels. There was no where to hang Towels or swimsuits. The closet only had a bar too low to hang most things. There was a light that stayed on if you opened the closet door. There was also a light in the bathroom that never went off. There was no mirror in the bedroom. The location was good but that room was definitely not worth what we paid for (and it wasn't the room we reserved).

Horrible nightly disruptions

Reviewed By Kenthecarman06

Very disappointed. PEOPLE BEWARE! There are active nightly trains here. Stayed 2 nights, Friday and Saturday and each night was woken up @ 2:30 am by a train conductor blowing his horn. I explained my displeasure upon checking out and was told(verbatim) " I will let the gm know, but we can't control the train schedule."(with a very smug attitude). I replied, I understand that, but you can also be transparent and let guests know, nightly disruptions are not uncommon due to frequent train activity. No where upon booking reservations was this me tioned. What was supposed to be a relaxing getaway, turned into a non-sleeping exhausting weekend. And then not to be offered any kind of discount or apology for this issue. People, please be aware before you stay here!!!!!!!

Exceeded my expectations

Reviewed By MarkLOZ

I love staying at locally owned hotels. Love to see the American spirit! This place didn’t disappoint. The front desk lady was super nice and you could really tell she wanted my experience here to be great. She greeted me and showed me where to park my trailer. Told me if there were any problems to make sure to call and it would be addressed. She then checked in with me to make sure everything was ok. When I walked into the room it was super clean and modern. Maybe it’s just me but I love window air conditioners. It just knocks me out and is so comfy. Anyways. Love the room and the service I received. Great job!

Amazing Hospitality, Location & Food!

Reviewed By AYHickey

I can't say enough about The Duncan House in St Josephs. We stayed at this amazing bed & breakfast the weekend of the Benton Harbor Half Ironman. Andy Duncan, the owner, goes ABOVE & BEYOND for his guests and can't say enough about his hospitality. Local wine & homemade cookies / lemon bars upon arrival, advice on getting around town, a 5 star breakfast in the morning & truly treats his guests like family. The house itself is extremly homey/cozy and is walking distance to downtown St Josephs where all of the restaurants & bars are. If you're in town for the Ironman, its was extremely convient & easy to get to the course. Andy is a special kind of person and has raised many fostered, adopted & own biological kids in this house. There is a warmth about him and his home that is unlike anywhere I've ever stayed (not to mention his incredible cooking & baking skills that come with your stay)! I can't wait to come back to St Josephs & stay at the Duncan House again :)

Perfect vacation!

You just don't get service like this ever. As a family of four with a toddler and a teenager, we love to travel. Covid has really ruined our year and our trip to Lake Michigan with a stay at Mark III has truly been the highlight. The beds are like sleeping on a cloud. Clean, safe, quiet, private, modern, spacious, comfortable, but above all else, they have taken care of us. We arrived late and still got a better room than booked on a busy sold out end of summer weekend. The other area lodging options are either 300-550/night for poorly rated run down bug infested nastiness. We spent 139/night and easily feel like we should have spent at least 100/night more. The owner brought us extra towels, coffee supplies, toiletries, everything we asked for fast and with a smile. His housekeeping staff was out sick and we were still taken care of. He even went so far as to leave us cash because the coffeemaker was not clean when we arrived. Never have I ever experienced this level of customer service in my travels. We will come back and stay exclusively here for all of our Lake Michigan trips in the future.
