Albert Gallery

The Albert Gallery is one of two art galleries operated by Working Art Space Sheffield (WASS) in the famous northwest town of Sheffield. The gallery is situated at the High street end of Albert Street, Sheffield adjacent to King George V park. It is both an art gallery and a thriving hub of local arts related activity. The gallery is housed in a heritage-listed former drill hall built in 1912 for the 22nd Light Horse Company. The interior of the building has been transformed into a high-quality arts-based facility where you can view and purchase the exceptional work of local artists and artisans, enrol in one of the regularly held workshops plus check out the latest exhibition on display. If you take the self-guided audio tour of Sheffield's murals, which can be arranged through the Visitor Information Centre, you will eventually find yourself at the Albert Gallery where it boasts its own mural relating to the Drill Hall's history.

Sheffield is a lovely town in Tasmania and well worth a visit even without its murals. Add in the plethora of murals and it becomes a must see. The size, range and high quality of the many murals is incredible. Don't expect to breeze in and out as there is too much to see and do here.

Mosaic Pathway

The Mosaic Pathway was created by members of Working Art Space Sheffield (WASS) and features mosaics of Tasmanian flora and fauna. The pathway starts at the carpark in the centre of town and crosses historic King George V Park. It also features the names of the 318 Sheffield Pioneers still buried in the park engraved in bricks along the pathway. The Albert Gallery sits at the end of this pathway on Albert Street. Brochures describing the pathway are available at the Information Centre, the Albert Gallery or the Pioneer Gallery. It is definitely worth a visit..

Well worth a quick stop as we learned a lot about where we could go hiking and what to see in the local area. Plus the murals are all alongside the building.
