Crossnore Weavers and Gallery

This is a must-see if you're in the area. Watching a room full of people working on looms is fun and their output is artful. Also attached is a crafts gallery. We bought an interesting mug with a rounded bottom that fits into a small pedestal.

Turtle Island Preserve

I did the boys 2 week camp about 20 years ago. As i have grown older, it remains one of my fondest memories. I gained so much knowledge, confidence, and respect for others at Turtle Island. It is an experience, that I think, every young man should have. Most of my best attributes and skills in life were born here.

Bob and Elaine are some of the most amazing people EVER! They were beyond hospitable to our group of 6. Friendly, educational, patient, are just a few of the words to describe them. The material in they buckets are, by far, the best in the area (I know this from many years of experience gem grubbing in the area). We left several stones to be cut that we know are all going to be amazing stones from good quality facet quality rough. THANK YOU for a fantastic experience that my friends will be talking about forever. We will be back at our earliest opportunity.

This is probably as you would expect for a state or federal run place. It’s clean and well organized. It has information about the local wildlife and wilderness. It can help fill in the blanks that google just can’t. They have maps and current regulations that can save you time and headaches. The people are friendly and know their stuff. They can help you turn a good experience into a great one.
