Ptuj (pronounced [ˈptuːi̯] ( listen); German: Pettau; Latin: Poetovium/Poetovio) is a town in northeastern Slovenia that is the seat of the Municipality of Ptuj. Ptuj, the oldest recorded city in Slovenia, has been inhabited since the late Stone Age and developed from a Roman military fort. Ptuj was located at a strategically important crossing of the Drava River, along a prehistoric trade route between the Baltic Sea and the Adriatic. Traditionally the area was part of the Styria region and became part of the Austria-Hungarian Empire. In the early 20th century the majority of the residents were of German extraction, but today the population is largely Slovenes. Residents of Ptuj are known as Ptujčani.

Loved it! Velenje Underground is quite an unusual experience. Having a fancy dinner 160 m below surface, combined with some artistic performance / music is really something »out of the box«. The idea behind this project was to elevate tourism in Velenje to a higher level, namely to create a memorable, 5 star experience for turists. This goes hand in hand with the vision of the tourist destination Slovenia… Slovenia as a green boutique global destination for high-end visitors seeking diverse and active experiences, peace, and personal benefits. I spent the day travelling around with my guide Michelle, and she made the whole experience something I will never forget. She took me to see many different sites from Lake Bohinj to Waterfall Savica to Lake Bled. However the main stops on the way were not all there was to see, it was as much about the journey as it was the destinations. Slovenia has some incredible sites to behold and the scenary all throughout the day left me blown away. Driving through the deepest vallies and up the tallest mountains, it was a real adventure the whole way. Due to the time of year and current events, we basically had every spot to ourselves without the hussle and bussle of noisy tourist spots and the benefit of this was how peaceful everything was. Michelle is an incredibly friendly and kind person, full of knowledge and experience of Slovenia that she shares with you in an enthusastic and engaging way, she is perfect company for the trip. This is an amazing day out which I highly reccomend to anyone visiting Slovenia. I will absolutely be coming back to stay at Lake Bohinj next year for a relaxing camping holiday. Thank you Michelle for touring me around Slovenia during my stay here. It has been one of the best ( or even, the best ) experience I have had travelling over the past few years.
