Tirta Gangga

The former royal palace of Tirta Gangga (which means water of the Ganges, Hinduism's holy river) features tiered Fountains, Gardens, and stone sculptures of mythical creatures spouting water into bathing pools. Just outside the palace grounds, the views of the lush rice paddies of northeastern Bali are stunning.

What a transformation! I was in Tirta Gangga before the renovation and can't believe what has been done. Incredible. Such a wonderful place and obviously taken care of with insight, inspiration, knowledge and love. The combination of Balinese culture, landscaping and activities makes the place very special. Either meditate, wander and get inspired by all the stories told through sculptures and Fountains, take a swim in one of the beautiful pools, feed the enormous fishes or just enjoy. It is a work in progress and I'm looking forward to visiting again to see the new developments.

Although this place is beautiful I am unsure it is worth the hefty entrance fee of $50,000 IDR Per person. Your money would be better spent at the other royal pools: Tirta Gangga, where it is just as beautiful, you are able to swim and the entrance fee is only $10,000 IDR Per person.

Amed Beach

Reviewed By Rejsefugl - Copenhagen, Denmark

Very nice snorkeling, easy access from the beach. The corals are not that colorful, however the fish are.
Totally recommended. It's at least as nice (if not nicer) snorkeling and fish variety as at Gili Islands.
In the evening when it's low tide, it can be a bit sketchy to get out to the reef - however once out there, very nice fish variety. Maybe go at high tide :)
We saw everything from pufferfish (so cute), angelfish, triggerfish, trumpetfish, butterflyfish, cow fish and loads of others. Heaps of snappers etc.
No wonder the Amed is full of diving shops :) must be really nice to dive from there as well.

White Sand Beach

Reviewed By TartanWanderer - England, United Kingdom

This is a very nice clean beach. There are two approaches, one far harder to locate than the other. No matter which way you come in there is a tourist tax of 10,000Rps to use the beach.
Plenty people selling sunbeds, massages and trying to get you into their restaurants. Prices are more than in some towns but then they do have to cart all the stuff down here. It's worth it!
the water is clear but the waves can be strong. they take pride in this beach and clean it which is rare in Bali!

Virgin Beach

Reviewed By Lynda J - Victoria, Australia

Pleasant surprise! It was nice to have it very quiet on the day I was there but would imagine it possibly very busy in peak season. A few people snorkeling and nice place to swim. Spotted some dolphins out there too. Plenty of sunloungers which are free if you have a meal at cafe..which are plentiful. The one we chose was very nice. Several locals trying to sell items but they don't bother you so much. Highly recommended for a relaxing day at the beach.

Lotus Lagoon

Reviewed By JanaBZZ - Manchester, United Kingdom

We visited the pond in the late afternoon, it was noting special. There was a lot of rubbish around and water seemed dirty. There was also lot of families swimming/ bathing in the pond. Couple of warungs nearby. I would recommend visiting if you are in Candidasa village anyway.

Asah Hill

Reviewed By Karmatrendz - Jakarta, Indonesia

Jan 2017, something going on here. Now the hill isn't spectacular, because someone build a resort here, so messy and confusing. Dirt and rubble everywhere, they cut the hill for road or something, many heavy equipment moving around, many worker too.
So you must walk to find some little hidden place to enjoy the view. The path now so rough even for motorcycle, so be careful when you go there. But still you can enjoy Virgin beach on the way back from the hill.....
