I took a local bus from Futrono to the falls lookout and walked 600m around the curve for a different view returning a half-hour later on another bus. The surroundings are spectacular with the snow-capped Andes and green pastures but the falls themselves are so-so. Worth a 5-minute photo opportunity on a drive around Lake Ranco.

What a magnificent spot. The seclusion, clean and fresh air. It's a marvel any nature lover must see. The walkways lead through amazing Forests and get you literally to the top of the Mountains. With spectacular views. Highly recommend a visit. Andres, was most helpful and speaks perfect English, which helped us greatly to explore the area. Thank you for a fantastic experience.

Nice lake beach, both for swimmers and boating. This place has a very interesting crowd, a mix of the most elite Chileans (including a president) and the typical low fare traveller or local with the loud radio and the barbecue, all of them rubbing shoulders in the rocky sand with the crystal clear lake. This is probably the most visited beach all around Lago Ranco and socially the most interesting for sure!

Para llegar hay que tomar un ferry desde el centro de Futrono.
Los cupos para personas están siempre disponibles incluso en temporada alta. Sin embargo para quienes quieren ir en vehículo, deben reservar con mucha anticipación porque solo caben 4 autos por viaje. Fui en enero y había espera de unos 15 días.
La embarcación se llena pero es comodo. Se puede ir al interior en asientos, afuera junto a los vehiculos o en unos balcones pequeños en el segundo piso para apreciar mejor la vista.
Dentro siempre van lugareos que ofrecen almorzar en sus casas y hacer tours. No lo recomiendo, muchos que lo aceptan pensando que al llegar no hay nada luego se arrepienten.
El viaje es de unos 45 minutos a una hora aproximadamente. Hay que ir abrigados en capas, en pleno verano el viento al interior del lago es frio y al llegar comienza a dar calor.
La embarcación llega a dos lugares, al primer puerto está en construcción y no tiene atractivo turistico a menos que se vaya a una casa especifica.
El segundo puerto da a una feria costumbrista. Una zona llena de pequeños locales al rededor de mesas techadas. Allí hay pequeñas cocinerías que por $3000 pesos sirven almuerzos increíbles y caseros, cazuelas, cordero, costillar. Venden también mermeladas, sopaipillas, chicha o tras Delicias araucanas. También hay artesanía.
Ahí mismo se pueden contratar tours, que son hechos por los lugareños con una amabilidad increible.
Hay cabalgatas y el paseo más importante es una excursión a la Piedra Bruja. Hay que tomar un vehículo hasta otro extremo de la isla. Ir sentados en la parte de atrás de una camioneta es lo más fácil y termina siendo una anecdota divertida. Nosotros eramos 12 personas en una camioneta riendo con cada salto del mal camino. Nos cobraron algo asi como $1500 cada uno.
La excursión es una caminata hasta por un pequeño cerro para pasar entre 2 piedras muy estrechas, si pasas "vivirás más de 100 años". De 20 personas, solo pasamos 5. EL precio es solo una propina a criterio del turista. Además de conocer cuevas donde se escondían los araucanos en las Matanzas de los colonos.
Finalizamos con un jugo en una pequeña ruca, jugando con los gansos y chanchos que andaban sueltos. Los niños eran los más felices.

Two of us hired a local drift boat from Cesar, with Don Carlos at the oars, and we enjoyed an extraordinary 4 hour fishing trip in glorious surroundings, catching and releasing 10 lovely trout each.

Fuimos un dia jueves, y comenzando noviembre. Optamos por comprar almuerzo+piscinas temperadas. El almuerzo muy rico y muy bien atendidos. Las piscinas temperadas son dos, una pequeña y la otra mas pequeña. Eramos en total no mas de 8 personas, un numero perfecto para disfrutar sin problemas. En temporada alta, y mucha gente, claramente la experiencia es diferente.
