Mason Elephant Park

Get up close and personal with Bali's largest herd of 31 Sumatran elephants at the island's premiere interactive and intimate elephant experience set among lush botanical gardens and jungle. Our resident giants can be seen immersing themselves in the park lake, in between riding, painting or other activities. Guests can observe, hand feed, touch, and take photos with our elephants, all the while learning more about them along the way.

We recently took the opportunity during this promotional period to stay for a night at Mason Elephant Park & Lodge. To be completely honest we were very sceptical about visiting the park as we are both nature and animal lovers and dislike the whole process of captive animals. However, we are also realists and understand the plight of so many animal species and the unfortunate necessity for parks and zoos in order to help preserve endangered species. Mason Elephant Park & Lodge was actually a very pleasant surprise. Combining the whole story of the initial rescue of these Sumatran elephants and the obvious desire of the owners of the park to provide the best possible environment for these rescued majestic animals we were very impressed to say the least. Of course, nobody wants to see any animal in captivity or tethered at any stage, but reality is reality. On our stay itself, wow. The park grounds are impressive to say the least, with wild orchids and stag horns adorning the beautifully landscaped surrounds. The staff were fantastic and extremely helpful and accommodating. The dinner at the restaurant was very good, which was another very pleasant surprise as we had seen a couple of bad reviews so we were pleased to see this was not the case. Our room was upgraded through the promotional package to a park view room which was nicely appointed and very comfortable. And of course, the veranda view overlooking the elephants and park was relaxing. Our final opinion is a big thumbs up.

It might just seem like everyone is there to get their new Instagram picture, but the swings are totally worth the money. It’s exhilarating and you get a view you won’t get anywhere else. I did the extreme swing which was so much fun, I just wish it would go on for longer! We then tasted 12 different teas, and I’ve tried flavors I’ve never experienced before. It was all so delicious, I’m sad I didn’t grab any as a souvenir. Highly recommend. It’s touristy and not cheap but it was a highlight of my trip.
