The 7 Best Things to do Good for Big Groups in Saalbach-Hinterglemm, Austrian Alps

March 20, 2022 Claudia Navarrete

In Saalbach-Hinterglemm, the hills are alive with the sound of happy travelers. Nestled in the Austrian Alps, it’s a skier’s dream, featuring a network of pistes and perfect powder. There’s plenty to do in the summer months, like hiking, mountain biking, geocaching or exploring the mountain forest from above, via a “treetop path” that’s a series of bridges, platforms and towers.

Access the gondola a little way out of the town of Hinterglemm. There's two places you can get off, mid way and at the top! There are Alms (cafe's) at each and play equipment for children. The views are breathtaking on a clear day. There's plenty of signposted walks and seats to take a rest. There's also chance to bike ride here, you can take your bike in the gondola and ride back down to the town

Without doubt an outstanding ski region. Long wide slopes with easy navigation and excellent lift interconnections around the whole area thanks to the new signage system. Very well serviced with mountain restaurants and WCs on nearly every slope (usually more than one). They do start to fill up at 11am and remain busy till 2pm. We paid between €11 and €20 a head for lunch for a beer and a hot food choice. Hardly more than a 3 minute lift queue even at the busiest of times. The Area lift pass is the best one to get as it offers you 4 big circuits: Saalbach, Hinterglemm, Leogang and Tyrol circuits unless you’re absolutely intent on wasting a whole day skiing over to Zell and the Hintertux for not a lot of gain! The best accommodation base location would be the more centrally located Saalbach, but this does come with the large groups of lads stag party caveat, if you like that kind of thing. Note: I travelled first week of January 2020. There was a massive dump of snow before we arrived and we enjoyed blue skies for the week. The slopes were degrading and getting patchy on day 6 with no forecast of snow for another week. There are many many snow cannons though to keep it all ticking over
