November 9, 2021 Christa Meece

Butte's gold rush past is evident in its vintage signs, historic buildings and numerous trolleys and tours devoted to the memory of mining days. Its historic landmark district boasts some of the country's best collections of Victorian architecture as well as preserved gems from the early 20th century. Of course, the spirits have to be the best part of visiting a distillery. Because of the Irish influence on Butte, this place has a great selection of bourbon, rye, Irish whiskey, and single-malt whiskey. There's also grain-based vodka and gin. You ask for a tasting, and can have eight, or four and a serious drink as part of the deal. On a gray afternoon, we did the four each and ended with a traditional Martini and a Moscow mule. We were not disappointed. Midafternoon, we had the place to ourselves. Go early and stay late!

You actually get to tour a mine that closed in the 1950s. This was an awesome unique industrial experience. Much of America was built by and wars were won by what was mined here. On top of the mine they built an old west town that kids would love.
