The 7 Best Cooking Classes in Parma, Emilia-Romagna

May 8, 2022 Carley Gatson

Best known for its incredibly edible contributions to world gastronomy (especially parmigiano cheese and Parma ham), Parma has also been revered by opera lovers (who flock to its Teatro Regio) since the days of Verdi, who was born in nearby Roncole. Parma’s many historic sights include the 11th-century cathedral and its baptistry. Begun in the 12th century, it's considered one of medieval Europe’s most important buildings for its straddling of the Romanesque and Gothic architecture periods.

Stefania’s teaching and hospitality are par excellence. Her set up, menu and ingredients are top quality and the instruction is spot on. After cooking, you’re sure to enjoy a great meal, as well assorted bites from some of the other food projects she seems to always have going. Her family is great too, and you will be quite privileged to dine with them if you get the opportunity. Don’t worry about your (lack of) Italian language skills as her English is well honed. She also knows a good bit about Parma and surroundings, and is happy to share advice and information. Don’t pass up the opportunity to spend an evening here.

My partner and I had an absolutely incredible evening learning how to make tortelli and tiramisu with Daniela. She was so friendly and patient while explaining each component of the process. We gained so much insider knowledge about traditions in Parma, cheesemaking, and Italian cuisine. We absolutely loved how hands on the class was and felt confident in the skills that we had learned. The icing on the cake was being able to share a beautiful cultural exchange with Daniela and her husband over dinner. It was a once in a lifetime experience and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Parma!
