Complejo Turistico Ecologico y Arqueologico “Chuchini”

Reviewed By 881jla - Zurich, Switzerland

We stayed 3 days in Chuchini with Miriam, Ibis and their lovley children! It was a terrific adventure! During the day we went looking for wildlife either by boat or on bushwalks. We saw plenty of birds, aligators and turtles! Some monkeys as well! Unfortunately it was not the season to see snakes. The seasons there must each offer really different experiences because of the water level of the rivers. In the rainy season the animals on land are easier to find while the crocodiles are harder to find because of the increased water levels. So make sure you check with the lovley owners first! Our tour guide, Ibis, speaks spanish. We only speak a little spanish, but we could figure out most things (through hand and foot sgnalling). His wife, Miriam, speaks german, english and spanish. She serves a variety of great food and joins you while eating, if she has some sparetime.
During our stay we had a night boat tour as well! We found out that Ibis is an awesome crocodile hunter! I was so scared, but trusted his skills! He picked them out of the water to show us their teeth, skin and everything... then let them go into the wild again! I even had a baby aligator on my lap! You will see their own museum with human species, who lived more than 10'000 years ago in this area - wow!
We planned our jungle trip whilst in Santa Cruz. We were advised that this trip is not as good as Rurrenabaque, but we do not know what more you would want! True,we did not see the Jaguar, but chances are really low in Rurre as well, especially because in Rurre are a lot more people around making noises! But, we heard it, smelled it, saw his foodprints and even saw scratches on trees it had made. We had an awesome time, living for 3 days in the jungle with this lovely family, enjoying a simple but more than satisfying life! And it was totally free of mass tourism!
We thank you again so much for giving us such a great time, wish you all the best and hope you will visit us in Switzerland one day! We would definitely return if we were in the area.

La Ruta del Bufeo

Ten minutes from Trinidad, you will find Puerto Ballivian. It is the gateway to the Ibare-Mamore Municipal Protected Area. Here begins the tour "The Bufeo Route". This walk consists of the observation of bufeos or Freshwater pink dolphins (inia boliviensis), a unique specie in the world that only inhabits the Amazonian rivers of Bolivia.

Barba Azul Reserve

Reviewed By Lowyr - Ithaca, New York

The barber azul reserve is a private wildlife refuge owned by the Bolivian Asociacion Armonía (http://www.armonia-bo.org). It is 11 hectare large and protects several different habitats including a river stream, palm Islands, cerrado and Savanna gras. What its quite special about this place, there ist no cattle farming allowed, so nature is really left alone here, except for the two rangers.
The reserve holds a vast amount of wildlife, first of all their flagship species - the endemic and critically endangered blue-throated macaw. A beautiful bird that we have seen in large numbers every day (about 40-60 per day, one has to keep in mind that only about 300 are left in the wild) but also many more including greater rhea, giant anteater, maned wolf, pampas deer (all endangered elsewhere) and many many birds (jabiru, spoonbill, blue-and-yellow macaw, yellow-collared macaw.....). We even added a new species there the red-shouldered macaw. What I liked the most is the unspoiled nature, the great number of animals and the fantastic opportunity to be a visitor there.
However, to get to the reserve is first of all expensive and a bit challenging but its also a great experience and a real adventure. You can only fly in during the rainy saison (October-May). There are two options charter a flight from Trinidad to the reserve (about 1800 US for 5 people) or take a shared Air-Taxi to Santa Ana del Yacuma (250-300 bolivianos) and then charter a flight to the reserve (2000 bolivianos). Sounds complicated - but the stuff from Armonía can arrange everything for you. In the dry month you can take a collective to Santa Ana del Yacuma from there you need to hire a driver to take you to the reserve since there is no public transport anymore. You have to stay for a minimum of 3 nights (150 US per night) the price includes everything, lodging in a beautiful cabana (we have been the first to use them), food, boat and horse usage, and complete access to the reserve.
I think the place is quite unique and a beautiful area the watch wildlife or just enjoy the landscape its extremely peaceful!!!

Reina de Enin

The Reina de Enin is a comfortable amazon basin river cruise (cabins with private bathroom and excellent cuisine). Nature activities are part of environmental conservation programs; cultural activities are focused on experiencing the way of life of the Indian communities. All of these activities unfold around walks through the jungle, bird watching, horseback riding, motorboat and canoe excursions.

Suarez Lake

There are a number of restaurants around Laguna Suarez, a little outside Santíma Trinidad in El Beni. On weekends, particularly Sunday, they can be quite crowded with family groups, but even during the week they can be delightful spots for a leisurely and quiet lunch. The view of the lake is beautiful, and the food quite delicious.

Bolivian Parrots Conservation

Reviewed By JosephMcGhee

I just got back from a great trip with CLB. They organized a completely private and customizable tour for a reasonable price. If you loved birds I would particularly recommend this organization. We had a specialized ornithologist accompany us for must of the trip!
We did a tour looking for the ancient artificial remains of the pre-columbian civilization that is thought to have made wide scale hydraulic engineering and maybe, just maybe, have been at the center of the El Dorado Myth.
They can do group and other types of tours too. Marina was our tour and driver. They are very flexible and patient. I found her reliable and thoughtful. We had a private tour with our own vehicle. This is great but expect that renting a private car (the company rents it for you) is about Bs. 600 to Bs. 800 per day.
I recommend being in touch with them before you go and asking for an itinerary. Make sure to bring cash as credit cards aren't wide accepted in Beni.
